In only 8 years, CCXP in Brazil has become the biggest fan event in the country. It has attracted studios from around the globe, most pertinently Hollywood. It’s where Disney this year showcased teasers for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3. DC Studios’ presence was apparently unexpected, but they definitely came through.

In a group of theatrical releases otherwise consisting of films long-delayed due to COVID, Blue Beetle is the year’s sole release to bring forth a new hero. And so, they brought the film’s teaser poster to reveal at CCXP.

The film follows Jamie Reyes, a teenager who is given powers of superhuman strength, speed, and armor when an alien scarab beetle attaches itself to him. The adaptation that popularized him most was the Young Justice animated series, where he had a prominent storyline in Invasion, his debut season.

Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña stars as Reyes, with Susan Sarandon playing the villain Victoria Kord; a film original who may be related to preceding scarab-bearer Ted Kord. George Lopez, Harvey Guillen, Belissa Escodobo, and Bruna Marquezine also have roles.

Blue Beetle was originally slated for release on HBO Max. It and Batgirl were set to lead a pack of such DCU projects, but it was moved to theatrical in late 2021. Batgirl would be written off by the Warner Bros. Discovery regime, however, but Blue Beetle lives on.
