Dark Horse Comics And Mattel Announce Prequel Comic Series To 'Masters Of The Universe: Revolution'
Dark Horse Comics and Mattel have announced that they are teaming up to create a limited four-issue comic series to serve as a prequel story tie-in to the upcoming Netflix animated series, Masters of the Universe: Revolution. The prequel comic series focuses on the major antagonists from the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power series, Skeletor and Hordak, respectively. According to the official Dark Horse synopsis:
“Journey to the earliest days of one of the universe’s most consequential and fraught team-ups. Hordak is an ambitious general, eager to make his mark; Skeletor is an aspiring mage hungry for power. Joining forces, melding ancient Eternian magic with advanced Horde technology, could bring them all their evil hearts’ desire … but they’ll have to survive each other first.”

The associated Netflix series, Masters of the Universe: Revolution will be a continuation of Netflix and Kevin Smith-produced and directed animated series, Masters of the Universe: Revelations (2021), which itself was a continuation of the popular animated He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983) series and children’s toyline. According to the official synopsis of the latest series, Prince Adam struggles with deciding whether he can serve Eternia best as King or as He-Man while he and Teela, who has become the new sorceress, are forced to defend Etheria against the twin threats of a newly mechanized Skeletor and Hordak, the despotic leader of The Horde.
According to IMDb.com, the series appears set to feature some major star power, including Mark Hamill (Star Wars, Batman: The Animated Series) as Skeletor, William Shatner (Star Trek) in an undisclosed role, Melissa Benoist (Supergirl) taking over as Teela, Chris Wood (Supergirl) as He-Man/Prince Adam, Lena Heady (Game of Thrones), Meg Foster (Masters of the Universe, They Live), Keith David (The Thing, They Live). Kevin Smith is once again serving as executive producer.
The new animated series is set to debut on Netflix on January 26th, 2024, however, the prequel comic book series will not debut until May 15, 2024, presumably serving more as supplementary material to the Netflix series rather than as an actual introduction to it.
