Cobie Smulders Discusses 'Secret Invasion' And What's At Stake In The Upcoming Marvel Thriller Series

Cobie Smulders has been talking about the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion, the latest series of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that sees Nick Fury uncovering the hidden rogue Skrull population from their positions of power on Earth. Smulders, who portrays Maria Hill, says that it has “been an absolute dream” to play the character for the last 10 years. She comments that Hill is “a fantastic, multi-layered character who has triumphed over some intense moments in Marvel history.” Last seen in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the same as Nick Fury, viewers are in the dark as to what they’ve been up to.

Smulders comments, “I’d like to think that she’s been sipping Mai Tais on vacation somewhere after coming back from the Blip but most likely, she has been working on a mountain of backlogged issues.” One of those issues is the rogue element of Skrulls putting themselves in positions of power. Something Hill has been wanting Fury’s help with. “When the Skrulls become public knowledge, it finally gets his attention.”

Things won’t be easy, however. As Smulders says, “It’s hard to know who to trust” when those you face can shapeshift. It’s part of what will make this series darker in tone than any previous MCU series. Just what happens in Secret Invasion will be revealed when it premieres on Disney+ on June 21.
