Marcia Lucas Appears For Her First Interview For 'Icons Unearthed' On Vice

Marcia Lucas

Marcia Lucas surely has a lot to tell.

She is one of the most renowned film editors in Hollywood, who has worked with the likes of Francis Ford Coppola, Marin Scorsese, and Irvin Kershner. She gave the input to have Ben Kenobi die in A New Hope, massively shaped the way the space battle at the end of the movie unfolded, and won an Oscar for Best Editing in 1978.

And she was married to George Lucas for 14 years and went through a rather nasty divorce from him while Return of the Jedi was in production.

She calls herself a “post gal”, who never liked to be on a film set, but now, for the first time, Marcia Lucas will sit down in front of the camera for a new documentary called Icons Unearthed: Star Wars, to talk about the rise of Lucasfilm, the editing process of one of the most influential films of all time, the origins of the idea that Darth Vader is Luke’s father and if it is actually true, that George had planned nine Star Wars movies from the get-go.

Headed by the Nacelle Company, which also produced The Movies that Made Us and The Toys that Made Us, Icons Unearthed: Star Wars will be a 6 hours long deep dive into the making of the Original Trilogy. Further installments of the documentary will include interviews will be Billy Dee Williams, Paul Hirsch (Lucas’ partner in crime on the editing desk and co-Oscar winner), Phil Tippett, Rick Baker, Ken Ralston, John Dykstra, Howard Kazanjian, Julian Glover, Ian McDiarmid, Gus Lopez, Tom Spina, and many others. Michael Pennington, who portrayed Moff Tiaan Jerjerrod in Return of the Jedi will provide the narration.

To create this documentary director Brian Volk-Weiss, who also heads the Nacelle Company has traveled around the world for months to talk to the people, who were there when film history was made in the late 70s and early 80s and to collect stories that were previously untold:

“Star Wars is the movie that inspired my entire career, so to be hearing new stories from the people who were there…was mind-blowing not just once or twice, but again and again. I believe fans of the franchise will be blown away by what we unearthed.”

The first installment of Icons Unearthed: Star Wars with Marcia Lucas will premiere on July 12 at 10 p.m. ET on Vice TV.

After the Star Wars episodes, the anthology series will continue to "unearth" facts and information on other most influential movie and TV franchises in history.
