Carl Weathers Brings More Action And Scope To His Role In 'The Mandalorian' Season 3

Carl Weathers as Greef Karga

The anticipation over the third season of The Mandalorian continues to build, and information continues to come out as we get closer and closer to its February 2023 release date.

In an interview with Empire, Carl Weathers talks about the news that he’s going to step behind the camera for one of the episodes, and it looks like there will be plenty of action in his episode.

RELATED:

Weathers had previously directed an episode of The Mandalorian with “The Siege.” He claims there will be a little more action to the episode this time, but it’s also different from “The Siege.” That difference comes in scope.

“…this one had many, many different kinds of stories within the story…” (Empire, 2022).

With two seasons and a couple of episodes from The Book of Boba FettThe Mandalorian has several storylines running through it, with Grogu, Din Djarin, Greef Karga, Moff Gideon, and Bo Katan all intertwined. Weathers talked about how excited he is to be back behind the camera.

“I love directing. It’s my passion. This show gives you so much opportunity to deal with all these different characters.” (Empire, 2022).

He talked about how the show covers so many different genres at once that being able to direct allows him to flex his skills and work in those genres. Carl Weathers has a diverse resume, from comedy and drama to science-fiction. It should be right up his alley.

If what we saw in the trailers for the upcoming season and the fun of “The Siege” are any indicators, then the next episode directed by Weathers is likely to be just as exciting and fun to watch.

Carl Weathers returned to global attention when he was cast as Greef Karga, the head of the Bounty Hunter’s Guild on Nevarro, in the first season of The Mandalorian. Karga first seemed to be slated as an antagonist during the first half of the season when he tried to stop the Mandalorian from taking Grogu off-world, but by the end, the cute and bug-eyed Grogu won him over, and now he helms the settlement on Nevarro as their magistrate. In addition, he helped Din Djarin repair the Razor Crest in exchange for the Mandalorian’s help clearing out the last Imperial base on Nevarro. According to the reveals at Star Wars Celebration back in May, Greef will return in season three.

Weathers is no stranger to the director’s chair, action, or drama. Prominent in the 70s, 80s, and even 90s cinema, he rose to stardom from his roles in Predator alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Rocky series as an initial rival and then friend Apollo Creed. Weathers guest-starred in Happy Gilmore with Adam Sandler as Happy’s golf coach Chubbs. Beyond that, he’s appeared in TV shows and movies here and there and lent his voice when needed, as he did in Toy Story 4 as Combat Carl.
