Captain America Overthrows Ant-Man For Sexiest Man Alive
On the Monday before last, November 7th, Stephen Colbert had the great pleasure of announcing the new Sexiest Man Alive with a real twinkle in his eyes yet again. Colbert announced their host for Last Week Tonight with John Oliver as the beautiful runner-up to the winning, humble Captain America actor Chris Evans. Some select crew and fans lovingly and jokingly booed in support of Oliver.
A few cute exchanges were disclosed a day after the big reveal on the PEOPLE Every Day podcast hosted by Janine Rubenstein, where she briefly interviewed their editor-in-chief Wendy Naugle, who led the endeavor of searching for the 2022 Sexiest Man Alive. When asked about the criteria for finding that man, the requirements were that said man must put themselves out there and be a reoccurring conversation topic for the masses.

Later in Janine’s interview, Cara Warner was kind enough to share the codenames for Evans during such a time when secrecy was the foremost important thing. It started as Marcel Michelle in reference to Evan’s good friend and turned into “Spiders” due to how “very charming” and “cute” he was on the PEOPLE’s photoshoot set outside Atlanta, Georgia, in a rural area where “creepy crawlies” lurked in the ground.
Given Evan’s career as Captain America, his “tear-gland inducing” role as Buzz in Disney’s Lightyear, and his exciting villainous debut as first-name Agent Lloyd Hansen in The Gray Man this past year, it only makes sense that he be a worthy candidate fitting those criteria. In addition to his political activism this year in trying to spread political awareness for all voters and uniting them with their elected officials to help create a more straightforward conversation for both sides via the platform AStartingPoint.com, he sat through what looked like a sensory overload of cuteness in his Buzzfeed interview four months ago with a series of fan questions and a hoard of attention-seeking puppies that has amassed a 3.8 million view turnout.
Right away, Evans knew the harassment was only lurking around the corner after the announcement of his new title, and right on cue, his friend Chris Hemsworth, Thor God of Thunder himself, guest starred on Jimmy Kimmel Live to proudly show that the Avenger friend group is doing what friends do; uninhibited teasing of the highest quality. Hemsworth laughingly summarized to Kimmel the text exchange:
“Downy said he’s being arrested, I said it was a beautiful mugshot. Then Jeremy Renner said a series of things which we won’t repeat...”
While Evans continues to pursue his life’s journey in quietly dating and bringing love to his family with his kick-ass uncle and dog dad vibes, fans are equally “pumped up” to see his next performances. The first performance of next year is alongside co-star The Rock, Dwyane Johnson in the Red One (2023), and the second appears to be a great fan-service-oriented role in the action-packed romantic adventure Ghosted (2023).
