Bob Chapek Will Remain CEO Of Disney For Three More Years According To His Contract Extension
The Walt Disney Company has decided to extend Bob Chapek's contract for another three years. The decision should come as no surprise, however, seeing that Chapek has led the company through a period of not only extreme growth but extreme obstacles. The CEO has steered Disney through the global pandemic, the expansion of several key properties, and an ideological battle in Florida over the controversial "Don't Say Gay" bill. However, some people are not as pleased with his extension, given the controversy surrounding a lawsuit filed by Scarlett Johansson and how long it took him to take a stance on the issue of gay rights in Florida.
However, the business speaks for itself. Chapek has over a dozen Disney-owned titles to be released before the year's end. And The Hollywood Reporter said in its initial reporting that the decision by the board of directors was unanimous. Chapek is predicting huge success at the box office as well as on Disney+ with these titles, which include several Star Wars and Marvel properties. So, for now, barring a massive shift in either public opinion or financials, Bob Chapek will remain the CEO of The Walt Disney Company until 2025, when his contract will be up for renewal if the board so chooses.
