'Blue Beetle' Director Praises Cast Missing Premiere In Solidarity With Strikes
As Hollywood continues to deal with strikes, those involved are giving up once-in-a-lifetime opportunities in order to stand up for their beliefs. The cast of the upcoming DC movie Blue Beetle, starring Xolo Maridueña as the titular character. The movie is about Law School graduate Jamie Reyes, who gets superpowers from an alien scarab. Xolo, as well as supporting cast members Bruna Marquezine, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, and Susan Sarandon didn’t attend due to the SAG-AFTRA strike they are participating in.
Their dedication was supported by Ángel Manuel Soto, who is the director of the upcoming film. “They cannot be here today. But you know what? They’re fighting the good fight,” he said when discussing the whereabouts of his colleagues. “It’s very important that we understand that they are heroes right now. They’re sacrificing this big opportunity to see themselves.” He then continued. “We put our heart and soul into Blue Beetle because we want you guys to feel welcome to our stories.” He then highlighted the inclusivity that the movie contained. “Don’t fear Spanish, don’t fear Mexican heritage, don’t fear Latino heritage. We want you guys to join the party with us.”
Blue Beetle will be released in theatres on August 18.
