Billy Eichner And Seth Rogen Return For 'Mufasa: The Lion King'
Disney is taking us back to Pride Rock. At the D23 Expo today, those in attendance were treated to a brief teaser trailer of Mufasa: The Lion King, the “live-action” prequel to the 2019 film. Billie Eichner and Seth Rogen will return as Timon and Pumba, respectively, who act as narrators of the story. The film will also feature Aaron Pierre as Mufasa, and Kelvin Harris Jr. as a young Scar.
Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) is set to direct the script penned by Jeff Nathanson, and he could not be more excited:
“I grew up with these characters, they mean so much to me. I think the work that Jeff Nathanson, the writer, did and going back into really helping children and anyone who ever loved this property understand what it takes. Kings aren’t just born, they aren't just made. They have to become who they are through a series of events that a lot of people can relate to.”

The story will follow a young Mufasa as he finds his way from an orphan cub to the King of Pride Rock. As Rafiki states in the limited trailer, “In this place, a lion was born without a drop of nobility in his blood.”
Mufasa: The Lion King will be released in theaters in 2024.
