Well, it happens to everything eventually. As technology advances, old technology gets fazed out. That’s how things go. VHS beat out Betamax. Then DVDs beat out VHS. Then Blu-Ray was the next big thing over DVD. Now streaming services are the way of things. Given the slowly fading demand for physical media, entertainment giant Best Buy has decided to scrap that branch of their sales, both in-store and online. They will continue to sell Blu-Ray and DVDs through the end-of-year holiday shopping seasons, then discontinue at the beginning of 2024.

The company will continue to sell physical games, however, so if you still want a physical copy of the next Madden game, Best Buy still has you covered. However, given that even video games are increasingly just bought on places like Steam or through download codes, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see a follow-up article a few years from now saying that video games are next.

No set date has been given for exactly when every Best Buy will stop selling DVDs and Blu-Rays, outside of early 2024. Be on the lookout around then. They might have a fire sale of all of their in-store stock. That could be your best opportunity to buy as many copies of Meg 2 as you could want for just five dollars.
