Finally! Batman and Catwoman get married! The most anticipated wedding in DC has finally happened. Fans have been waiting for the Bat and Cat wedding since the summer of 2018. Not only is it the most anticipated wedding it is also the smallest but one of the most perfect DC Comics weddings. The new comic, Batman/Catwoman #12 written by Tom King sets the stage for the two love birds. This wedding, however, takes place in an alternate timeline. If you remember in the main timeline Selina left Bruce at the altar. That was in Batman, Issue #50, July 4, 2018. Selina expressed concerns that Bruce would not be able to continue protecting Gotham City if he was concerned about being a father. Not this time! The wedding is portrayed as a humble and adorable ceremony.

The Batman and Catwoman romance has been going on in two different timelines since the 1940s. These timelines, for the Comics, were in Prime Earth or Earth-One and Earth-Two. Earth-Two had the two married, and parents, by the late 1970s. By 1977, in Earth-Two Selina and Bruce were married and had a daughter named Helena Wayne. She was also a vigilante known as Huntress. This story was much different from the original story but as the comics moved from the Golden Age to the Silver Age and on into the multiverse, two different stories of the Bat and the Cat have now emerged.

Batman did not fall for Catwoman so easily in the main universe. He thought she was pretty sketchy… After all, his first encounter with her was when he was trying to catch a thief and that thief ended up being Catwoman. Catwoman did not trust Batman either. Not until the 2000s did Bruce let Selina know that he was Batman. Bruce did not “pop the question” until DC Comics Batman Issue #24.

Now, in July 2022, in Batman/Catwoman Issue #12, the Bat and the Cat wed. The style of the wedding was Batman and Catwoman’s decision. Selina and Bruce go to a 24-hour chapel in Gotham city to take their vows. They purchased the “Batrimony” package where Batman himself married the happy couple. The minister was dressed as Adam West’s Batman. Lois and Superman stood in as the witnesses. They did not want all the fanfare involved. They just needed the two of them together. This is the humbleness of Batman and Catwoman.

Selina explains to Bruce before the wedding:

This is who we are. You and me. Without costumes and gadgets and whips. After all they’ve done to us this is what’s left. Bat and Cat. Two wounded animals who, in the midst of the hurt, managed to crawl to each other.

These were the vows Bruce Wayne said:

I, Bruce Wayne, take you, Selina Kyle, to be my wife. To have to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health. To love and cherish always.

It will be interesting to see where the DC Comics like Tom King take us next. Batman/Catwoman Issue #12 appears to be the final issue. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next. There are many other Batman comics out there as well as comics on Catwoman to read. It will be interesting to see what happens next. Anything can happen in the comic world. Crossing timelines and earths (universes) has become common practice nowadays. One tale to look out for is Batman – One Bad Day: Catwoman coming to comic bookstores this December 2022.
