Fans the world over will finally get a AAA game set in the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe.

Announced Thursday, Paramount Game Studios and Saber Interactive, in cooperation with Avatar Studios (the studio formed by the original show’s creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko), are developing a AAA RPG set in the Avatar Legends universe.

Not much about the game is known right now, but the developers have said it will be the biggest game in the ATLA franchise to date. It will be released on both PC and consoles, but no release date was given at this time.

Some elements of the story were revealed. It will apparently be set thousands of years before Aang and Korra. Players will take on the role of an Avatar, naturally, and it will not have been named in other works. This puts the protagonist far back in the line of Avatars, but perhaps not as far back as Avatar Wan. They’ll have to master the four elements, engage in combat, and do the work of the Avatar: bring the world into balance. Story-wise, the developers said it will feature both new and familiar elements that fans will recognize.

Doug Rosen, Senior VP of Games and Emerging Media at Paramount Game Studios, stated that he knows how much ATLA fans love the IP, and they are excited to expand on the world-building in a way that only gaming can do.

This announcement comes after season two of the live-action show on Netflix found their Toph Beifong, and that production is about to begin. Granted, the live-action show is semi-removed from Avatar Studios; it’s part of a series of announcements from the relatively new studio of works that will expand the world of ATLA even more.
