Angela Kang's 'Silk: Spider Society' Scrapped By Amazon
After revealing a Noir focused on Spider-Man Noir, Amazon has announced its Silk: Spider Society show is no more. Angela Kang departed her role at AMC to take on the Amazon project in an alleged eight-figure deal. The scrapped show will not affect Kang’s role with the company. Silk: Spider Society would have followed the story of Cindy Moon. Moon is a Korean-American woman who was bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker. In the show, Moon escapes from prison and seeks out her family on the way to becoming a superhero.
Silk was initially announced in November 2022 and had plans to reopen its writer room this past January after the work stoppage of the WGA strike. During the strike, the team assessed the work that was already complete. Sources report that Kang’s pitch was taken well but the company looked at the cost and decided to proceed with Noir while canceling Silk. The team of Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Amy Pascal were set to executive produce both shows as the beginning of a string of live-action Marvel shows based on the 900 characters that Sony owns the rights to use. Plans for future live-action Sony Marvel shows remain in place, but no details have been revealed yet.
