Andrew Koji Star Of 'Bullet Train' and 'Warrior' Wants To Play Jin Sakai In 'Ghost Of Tsushima' Adaptation

Ghost Of Tsushima

In recent years, when not focusing on the villain Spider-man universe, Sony has been working on converting a lot of their exclusive video games into movies. This past year, Uncharted with Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg premiered to mixed reviews. Some of the titles coming out shortly include The Last of Us with Pedro Pascal, Twisted Metal from the team who brought us Deadpool, and the Kurosawa-inspired, open-world game Ghost of Tsushima which is from Chad Stahelski of John Wick fame.

But who could play the titular character role of Jin Sakai the last surviving samurai in 13th Century Tsushima Island who is trying to avenge his people against the Mongol hoard who destroyed the land?  Well, Andrew Koji would like to throw his name into the ring.

Andrew Koji has been acting since 2006 but got his big break as the lead in the tv series Warrior paying a martial arts enforcer for the Chinese during the Tong Wars in San Francisco during the 1870s. He is currently making rounds for the new Brad Pitt action movie Bullet Train which he is a star. Koji was asked what his next project might be, and he never hesitated.

“I'm going after Ghost of Tsushima — that's what I'm going to do," the 34-year-old Japanese-English actor says over Zoom from South Africa, where he's currently filming Warrior's third season. "I would love that. I think I can do a really good Jin Sakai. I can bring my own spin to it."

He continued,

"I've played [the video game] twice now," Koji says. "I was thinking about it because [the adaptation has] been on the horizon, all the team talking about it. It would have to stand by itself because the game's so good. Let that exist by itself, and the film should be something slightly different. That's the problem with those video game films."

Based on reviews of Warrior and his performance in Bullet Train, it would be great to see him step into the role, Chad Stahelski and Sony have yet to comment further on the project so only time will tell.
