Metro-Goldwyn Mayer has been a studio for a long time. Three years ago, they were purchased by Amazon in a deal worth $8.5 billion. Among the many assets were the rights to Bond, James Bond, but not all of them. Amazon-MGM did not have full creative control over the franchise, which remained in the hands of Danjaq and Eon Productions. However, it has been recently announced that Amazon has gained creative control over the James Bond license. This means that longtime stewards Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have stepped away and formed a new joint venture with Amazon-MGM.

Of the deal, Wilson is on record saying, With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects. Therefore, Barbara and I agree, it is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future.” Any details about this deal, alongside what this means for 007, is at the moment unknown. However, we can be certain that a new movie is in the future, even if it’s not today. With that being said, we’ll be heading offline as we await our next assignment.
