Aaron Taylor-Johnson opened up to Esquire Magazine recently, unapologetically revealing that his most important casting is in the role of father. The young actor is most recognizable in Hollywood blockbuster franchises such as Avengers: Age of Ultron, where he plays opposite Elizabeth Olson as Pietro Maximoff (aka Quicksilver) and Godzilla, where he also coincidentally plays opposite Elizabeth Olson as Lieutenant Ford Brody.

After starring in these films, Taylor-Johnson had a streak of turning down similar roles in other franchises. When asked why he chose to decline, the actor said he felt that spending time with his family over the “big, huge franchises” was more important. “There was Kick-Ass and then there was Godzilla and Avengers, and all those things lined up for me, but I didn’t really care for them…I wanted, purely, to be with my babies. I didn’t want to be taken away from them. I battled with what that would be like.” Additionally, the actor shared his honest thoughts on moving at a Quicksilver pace between film projects. “It doesn’t feed my soul. I enjoy the normality of things, the everyday stuff. Getting my kids ready in the mornings, taking them to school and activities—that’s plenty. That feeds my soul,” he said.

Considerable time has now passed since Avengers and Godzilla, and it appears that the actor is ready to return to the big screen in Sony’s Kraven the Hunter, a spin-off of Spider-Man. He discussed the role as well as why he is now ready to return to Hollywood. “You can’t step into this role, you can’t step into what this franchise is, with a fucking half-assed, ‘Let’s see how it goes’ attitude.” He continued by acknowledging that he simply was not ready earlier in his career to commit to blockbuster films within the industry. “You have to be mentally prepared for what could come with that. I think I’m secure in my life now to know that I’m happy to deal with that. I don’t think I was probably ready to invite that into my life earlier on.”

Kraven the Hunter is expected to hit theaters on August 30, 2024.
