A Stage Version Of 'Tangled' Is Being Workshopped Right Now
Broadway World has recently confirmed that the Disney Theatrical Group is exploring a stage version of Disney’s popular 2010 animated film, Tangled, adapted from the German fairytale about the long-haired Princess in a tower, Rapunzel, featuring prominent actors Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, and Donna Murphy. Tangled may not necessarily wind up on Broadway, however, as Disney Theatrical Group often only makes titles available for professional licensing and schools. Additionally, it should be noted that some productions are canceled without ever seeing the light of day. No announcements regarding an adaptation have been made one way or another to date.
However, there has already been an abridged stage adaptation entitled Tangled: The Musical that premiered on the Disney Magic of the Disney Cruise Line 2015, featuring three new songs by Alan Menken and Glen Slater, who previously wrote the music for the film. The film has spawned a short animated special, Tangled Ever After (2012), as well as two television series, Tangled Before Ever After and Tangled: The Series (aka Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure) that premiered in 2017. If adapted for Broadway, Tangeled will join other prominent Disney movies to spawn Broadway versions, including The Lion King and Beauty & The Beast, that have expanded on the original stories and often added new songs.
