A Special Showcase Was Shown For 'Tales Of The Shire'
At the time of this writing, it is Hobbit Day, and to commemorate the day, Private Division & Wētā Workshop had a live showcase to go over their upcoming release, Tales of the Shire.
The game is what is affectionately called a cozy game these days, and as you can imagine, it takes place in the Shire. You play as a hobbit trying to live their life and enjoy the serene beauty of the Shire.
Tales of the Shire looks absolutely beautiful. The art style perfectly matches the aesthetic of the game and the Shire. It seems you won’t find any combat in this game, as that is not the aim of the game. Right off the bat, in the video, they stress the goal of making friends, building a community, and living the life of a hobbit. That means lots of food, gardening, and socializing.

Cooking is something they focused on in the game. Ingredients come in different flavor profiles and quality levels, and you’ll have to experiment and discover recipes to find different meals. These meals are used to build your relationships with other hobbits because, of course, these are hobbits we’re talking about. You have to make sure you feed the hobbits for their many meals throughout the day.
Another focus of the game is building your home. The developers talked about how they put a lot of effort into the decorating and design of hobbit holes. The story starts with you inheriting a house, and most of the rooms are boarded off to keep from having to clean them all, but as you progress in your building up of the village and your skills, you can unlock them later on.
Discovery and exploration are central to the game's aesthetic, combined with a love of nature. Objectives for whatever quests you get along the way are guided by friendly birds that fly along with you as you make your way to the objective. But if you feel like scratching that adventure itch, there’s plenty of room in the map to explore and find what the Shire has to offer.
Check out the video to see more about what the game offers. It officially comes out on March 25, 2025, which, accordingly, is the same day that the ring was destroyed.
