A 'Picard' Movie Is In The Works According To Patrick Stewart
It recently came to light that Patrick Stewart announced during an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he was anticipating the arrival of a new Star Trek film script. This is the first explicit news heard from Stewart, or anyone else involved in Star Trek: Picard, that this new project is in the works following the show’s very successful third and final season this past April. During their interview, Stewart told the podcast’s host, Josh Horowitz, “I’m so excited because it sounds like the kind of project where the experimentation that I want to do will be essential for this kind of material. It’s good at 83…”
Patrick Stewart’s interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast was only published at the end of last week, even though the interview happened back in November in promotion of his memoir, Making It So. It seems like this could be the first step in the Star Trek alum’s path back to the big screen as Jean-Luc Picard, though it’s possible a Paramount+ movie event could be in the works for this film, like the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery spinoff, Section 31.

Based on the rest of the podcast interview, it seems very likely that Patrick Stewart should have received this movie script last month. There’s potential for this new movie to continue Star Trek: Picard storylines from the last three seasons, or even from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Maybe we could even see those ideas carrying through to spark yet another project, such as the not-official, not in-development (but envisioned by Star Trek directors and fans alike) Star Trek: Legacy to give everyone the closure they have been after for the characters of both Next Generation and Picard.
