In an interview with Game Informer, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order director Stig Asmussen revealed additional details regarding the sequel to Respawn Entertainment's 2019 game. With a March 2023 release date, Asmussen detailed features gamers can anticipate from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Star Wars: Jedi Survivor occurs five years after Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order placing its events at the early stages of The Great Jedi Purge. Cal Kestis shows his age as well. Facial hair aside, it is evident from the trailer he now has a few more Jedi skills added to his moves list. With the Galactic Empire branding all Jedi criminals, Kestis will need all these moves. Fortunately, according to Asmussen, Kestis is "an unconventional Jedi, and he has to do unconventional things. So, something that would be frowned upon during the height of the Jedi Order?"

Something like a new dual-blade option wherein Kestis wields a lightsaber and blaster simultaneously or when he teams up with Bode Akuna, a mercenary. "He and Cal form a special bond," Asmussen states, "It's almost like they're brothers. And they're not the same, but they really do complement each other." This is best exemplified in the trailer’s sequence that showed Cal and Bode attacking in tandem suggesting a team-up feature.

The most notable addition is going to be Cal Kestis' fighting stances. "We have five fully realized stances in the game. A lot of it depends on the enemy that you're coming across. It's advantageous to use certain types of stances against certain types of enemies, and it's up to the player to figure that out. It requires the player to break down the enemies and figure out what the best weapon of choice is." Asmussen also describes a lethal stance. "It's a more confident stance. It's weighty; it's beefy. But you have to be very measured on how you use it because the timing windows are longer with the blade.”

Survivor, like Fallen Order, has been incorporated into Star Wars canon and will likely be a reference point for future games and shows. Asmussen has not revealed and likely will not reveal whether the game's title suggests another Jedi survivor or a reference to the titular Jedi Knight survivor Cal Kestis. Doesn't matter, Stig Asmussen has teased fans just enough with the additional moves list and gameplay that he need not say more.
