A Date Has Been Set For Contract Talks For DGA And The Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers

Directors Guild of America (DGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) jointly released a statement that they have set May 10th, 2023 as the date to enter the formal contract talks for the Basic Agreement (BA) and Freelance Live and Tape Television (FLLT) Agreement. The present contract between the DGA and AMPTP is due to expire on June 30th, 2023.
A message signed by negotiations chair, Jon Avnet, co-chairs, Karen Gaviola and Todd Holland and National Executive Director, Russ Hollander, expressed their intentions to ensure that the new contract benefited the community in the long term. It said, “We are committed to negotiating a contract that treats our members fairly and with respect while defending the future of this industry – a future we will all build together.

The DGA knows how to win, and — with your help — we will win again.” The message further went on to state, “The history of our industry is a story about evolution and technological change. Today is no different. The DGA has always protected our members’ future by anticipating where the industry is going, where future growth will take place and negotiating agreements that reap benefits now and more significantly, in the future. Today, this means addressing the impact of vertical integration and company self-dealing as well as the studios’ increasingly international focus.”
The move to hold the negotiations closer to the date of expiry of the previous contract has been made to clinch the best possible deal. Unlike the previous three bargaining cycles, the DGA contract negotiations this year will not precede those of the Writers Guild of America (WGA), which are scheduled on 20th March. The last time the WGA initiated the negotiations back in 2007, it had resulted in a 100-day strike.
