What We Learned About Sonic Prime from Netflix's Geeked Week

June seems to be the month for Sonic news. With the recent influx of Sonic Frontiers reveals, all eyes were on Netflix to deliver with Sonic Prime. Though comparatively, not much else was revealed compared to the amount of information on the upcoming mainline Sonic title, there is still been a decent amount revealed before and during the last day of Netflix's Geeked Week

Sonic Central Teases Shadow The Hedgehog In The Upcoming Title

Roughly two days before Sonic Prime was to be shown off at Geeked Week, SEGA did a little teaser of their own during their Sonic Central event. During the event, it was confirmed that Shadow would be appearing in the upcoming animated series. No information, other than a short clip of his reveal, is known at this point. Although the voice actor for Sonic in Prime, Deven Mack, has nothing but good things to say about his yet-to-be-revealed voice actor:

Reactions to the brief clip have been positive concerning the return of the character. All eyes were on the then-upcoming Geeked Week event that Sonic Prime was to be featured at.

Big And Froggy Revealed I Extended clip (Plus Other Plot Details)

In a clip premiered on the last day of Netflix's Geeked Week, Sonic is seen speeding by two familiar faces: Big the Cat and his amphibian pal Froggy. Like Shadow, his voice actor has yet to be officially confirmed, but unlike Shadow, his reveal was accompanied by the reveal of his voice as well. In the clip, Sonic is speeding by the purple cat, disorienting him. Sonic stops him before falling over and apologizing, saying he needed to save his friends. This is later revealed to be a plot point for the show. It is implied that the story may begin with Sonic taking his friends for granted, referring to a potential character arc for the blue hedgehog. Reactions to this reveal were mostly positive as seen in this Tweet:

Rouge the Bat is a bat treasure hunter/spy character who made her first appearance in Sonic Adventure 2 (2001), and Blaze the Cat is a fire power-wielding cat princess of the Sol Dimension who made her first appearance in the 2005 Nintendo DS title, Sonic Rush.

On the other hand, some are not happy about the limited scope of the reveal, with many saying on Twitter that the teasers could have been all one video.

Regardless, there is clearly a lot of excitement being generated for the upcoming show. Several users are loving the flow of the animation, with many praising the squeeze and stretch style and just how expressive the models are. There are several users pointing out the use of smear frames and how the animators even use Sonic's ears to express emotion. While several people are still anxiously awaiting more information on the upcoming animated series, there is plenty to talk about with the information that has been given about the show and the Sonic Frontiers game. Sonic Prime is slated for a Fall 2022 release, and it is unknown if and when the series is going to get a proper trailer. Until then, Sonic fan reactions are mixed over the speed at which information is being revealed.
