New High Republic Content Revealed For Early 2022
Exciting details regarding the future of Star Wars: The High Republic publications have recently been announced at Lucasfilm's Publishing Panel this year at Comic-Con@Home. The half-hour conversation featured authors Cavan Scott, Justina Ireland, Charles Soule, Claudia Gray and Daniel José Older, along with Krystina Arielle, the host of Star Wars: The High Republic Show.
Fans can expect four main titles to be released as early as January 2022, covering a scope of the vibrant dynamics in the High Republic era of storytelling - Eye of the Storm, The Fallen Star, Mission to Disaster and Midnight Horizon. The tagline “The Light of the Jedi goes dark…” promises a brewing storm encroaching on the brightness that is the Jedi Order at the height of their power.

Eye of the Storm
Having penned the extremely popular High Republic novel Light of the Jedi, which made first place on the New York Times bestseller list, great expectations naturally follow for Charles Soule's next project - two 30-page Marvel comic issues to be released in January titled Eye of the Storm. Soule reveals that the publication would dive into the complicated backstory of Marchion Ro, the Eye of the Nihil. As the mastermind who chronicled the rise of Kylo Ren in the sequel era, and dug deep into the story of Darth Vader, his description of the villain was most enticing:
“He’s absolutely terrifying. He’s charming in a way…you’ll meet him and he’ll talk to you and you’ll have a good time. Maybe he’ll buy you a beer. A space beer, I guess. But then, you know, the minute you leave the room, his face goes blank. It’s all just a mask.”
Nothing concrete has been revealed on Claudia Gray's third adult novel. It looks like we will have to wait on the edge of our seats until it is released. Meanwhile, it is interesting to note that Gray had most fun creating the character Geode, the sentient Vintian male rock first introduced in Into the Dark. With her unique and interesting expression of character reactions and interactions in neither body or verbal language, one could very much look forward to the potential introduction of new out-of-the-box characters apart in addition to her superb storytelling.
Mission to Disaster
Debuting as a middle grade reader next year, Justina Ireland kept any teasers and information on Mission to Disaster secret. Nonetheless, the succinct title quite clearly points towards an ominous direction for the story. Ireland's latest projects include a recent release of Out of the Shadows, now available in bookstores worldwide, and a manga Edge of Balance to be released in September, which takes readers along on the journey with Jedi Knight Lily Tora-Asi, who devotes her efforts in resettling refugees after the Great Disaster.
A young adult novel to be released in February 2022, author Daniel José Older promises that it would live up to the hype and described it as "a chaotic mess in the best possible way". We do have the publisher's summary:
"Another exciting young adult adventure featuring Jedi and their Padawans as they fight the nefarious villains the Nihil!"
Apart from the book's announcement, Older also announced at the panel that the adventures of Padawan and mechanic Ram Jomaram are far from over, with "lots more Ram to come."
