Fans Want 'Sonic Frontiers' Delayed And Reworked
There has been a steady increase in fans calling for the upcoming Sonic Frontiers to be delayed and reworked. This seems to be the main rallying point behind both #ReleaseFrontiersDemo and #DelayFrontiers. According to an article on Eurogamer, the most common concerns "include stiff animations, a lack of momentum, and a world that doesn't feel like Sonic without hills, loops and ramps." Just like with the first design of the Sonic movie, fans are rallying for SEGA to delay and make necessary changes to the game. One Twitter user called the game "Boom levels of incomplete," referring to the much maligned title Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric.
Some, however, think a delay is not enough, calling for the hashtag #ReplaceSonicTeam instead. There are even those who have gone the extra mile and called for Sonic Team to be disbanded entirely, though people have been quick to point out that Sonic Team makes other more well-received received titles rather than just Sonic such as Phantasy Star and PuyoPop. There are also those that think Sonic fans have learned the wrong lesson from the Sonic movie debacle. SpeedSuperSonic stated as such on his Twitter, saying "I’m afraid the Sonic Movie redesign taught the fanbase the wrong lessons." Several others chimed in the replies, saying that the wrong lesson is "That any kind of problem or complaint is solved by shouting 'Delay this!' Constantly, even if it isn't the case." There are those that think that the issues with the game will not be fixed by simply delaying the game. However, some think that the game does not need to be delayed at all, comparing it to how other games in the franchise looked at this time in development.

In a video uploaded by KodyCrimson, a comparison is made between the development of Sonic Unleashed and the current state of Sonic Frontiers. The argument of the video is that Unleashed looked rough even up to two months prior to release. While the video presents solid evidence, some are not entirely convinced. One user stated that they still didn't see "much of a difference in the 6 months thing for Unleashed." Another pointed out that even as early as eight months before release, Unleashed still resembled the game that made it to store shelves. There were others that were convinced by the video and are convinced that Sonic Frontiers will receive the same polish that Sonic Unleashed received in six months.
Another argument against delaying the game is that the footage being shown is from an early build. This was confirmed to be the case in IGN's Hands-On Impressions video. It is unknown how early the build is, but many suspect that the current build may look much better than what is currently being shown off. This strategy, however, does not seem to make sense to several Sonic fans. SSF1991 had this to say on Twitter:
"It's unfortunate that SEGA's marketing of Sonic Frontiers is probably going to be what everyone remembers about this road to this game's release, and not in a good way.
I hope that this game, if it's a high-quality one, is able to do well nevertheless..."
Whether or not fans should be patient or call for a delay, it's clear that this is an interesting time to be a Sonic fan. Sonic Frontiers is currently slated for a holiday release for all major platforms.
