Which 'Star Wars' Legends Villain Had The Highest Kill Count?

Collage of villains in Star Wars

There are some excellent villains in the Star Wars franchise. Tarkin, Palpatine, and Boba Fett have high body counts. Some villains like superweapons, some love a bioweapon, and others prefer a straight “disintegration.” But does Legends (previously known as the Expanded Universe) have anyone that can top what we have seen on the screen? Below are the most lethal characters from the books, games, and graphic novels. Because we can’t give you an exact figure on kills (Legends materials are not that specific) each has a “Lethal rating” out of 10 instead.

9. The IG-88 series

IG-88

In Legends, IG-88 is part of a series of five droids that all turned on their makers. IG-88A and his brothers believed they were superior to organics and aimed to take over the galaxy. IG-88 is canon but the rest of the line and the stories still count as Legends.

Best Kills: Murdering everyone at the Holowan Laboratories facility. Encouraging the droids on Mechis III to rise up and kill the factory workers. Gaining access to the Death Star (fortunately, it was destroyed before they were able to take full control of the facility).

Lethal Rating: 2/10

Although the IG-88 series have wracked up more kills than your average villain, there are worse killers.

8. Odion

Odion is a Sith Lord born around one thousand years before Luke Skywalker in the High Republic era from Star Wars: Knight Errant comics. One of two brothers, Odion was hypersensitive to the presence of other beings, so he devoted as much time as humanly possible to destroying them.

Best Kills: Massacre of civilians on Aquilaris, using an ancient Sith Artifact called the Helm of Ieldis to wipe out three armies on Skarpos

Lethal Rating: 4/10

Odion was great at directing his rage at the innocent, but his kill count could be higher.

7. Exar Kun

Like all good Sith Lords, Exar Kun tried to wipe out the Jedi and rule the known universe. His soul was trapped in the temple on Yavin 4. He then took advantage of the opportunity when Luke Skywalker set up his new Jedi Praxeum in the Great Temple.

Best Kills: Brainwashing, killing (by the thousands), and enslaving the Massassi who built the temples on Yavin 4. Imprisoning the souls of Massassi children. Killing the Supreme Chancellor. Creating a dark army to murder Jedi. Killing Luke Skywalker’s first apprentice Gantoris, and manipulating Kyp Durron into turning to the dark side.

Lethal Rating: 5/10

Exar Kun came back from the dead and killed in two different erras, which is impressive.

6. Vaylin

In Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen Empire, Vaylin was the daughter of the Immortal Emperor of the Eternal Empire, a totalitarian dictatorship in the Outer Rim. It is inevitable that a strong Force user such as her would fall to the dark side after her mind was warped by years of torture and her father’s mental conditioning. Pitted constantly against her family, she eventually ascended to the throne.

Best Kills: Slaughtering civilians and Jedi on Ord Mantell. Invading and burning Voss (unluckily for her, the Sith Empire’s fleet arrived before she could complete the task). Destroying the Alliance base at Odessen.

Lethal Rating: 6/10

Vaylin is the first person on this list to attempt planet-wide destruction

5. Ysanne Isard

A former Intelligence Agent who took command of the Imperial Remnant after the death of Palpatine. Famous for her heterochromia iridium (one red eye and one blue) and scarlet admiral’s uniform, Ysanne Isard was ruthless and cunning.

Best Kills: Torturing, brainwashing, and killing an unknown number of prisoners aboard the Lusankya. Killing a large number of civilians on Coruscant when the buried Super Star Destroyer shot its way free from the planet’s surface. Developing and releasing the Krytos virus and cutting off the supply of bacta needed to cure it. Killing millions of non-humans.

Lethal Rating: 7.5/10

The only person on this list without any special abilities. If she were Force-sensitive, her kill count could have been a lot higher.

4. Darth Nihilus

Darth Nihilus

Nihilus became a Sith Lord when he suffered a trauma so great that his connection to the Force became a “hunger.” To sate his appetite, he would feed on the life energy of others.

Best Kills: Murdering all the Jedi in the conclave at Katarr. Responsible for the first Jedi Purge, nearly eradicating them from the galaxy.

Lethal Rating: 8/10

Darth Nihilus killed A LOT of Jedi. However, although he has the mass genocide aspect covered, he did not destroy whole planets like others on this list.

3. Darth Krayt

Originally a Jedi trained by Ki-Adi-Mundi, Darth Krayt fell to the dark side after Order 66, and rose to power after the fall of Sidious. He was captured and tortured by the Yuuzhan Vong, who gave him genetically engineered implants that made him more powerful, but also threatened to eat him alive constantly.

Best Kills: Genocide of the Mon Calamari. Poisoning the ocean world of Dac and killing millions more Mon Cals and Quarren.

Lethal Rating: 9.5/10

Darth Krayt has one of the highest kill counts in the Star Wars universe. He has ended a world and nearly ended a race. However, there are two that can top even him.

2. Kyp Durron

Kyp Durron

A Force-sensitive found in the spice mines of Kessel by Han Solo, Kyp Durron was one of the first students trained by Luke Skywalker. Although he eventually redeemed himself and became a powerful Jedi, his turn to the dark side brought about much destruction.

Best Kills: Stealing the superweapon Sun Crusher and blowing up several populated systems (the Cauldron Nebula, an Imperial Shipyard, and the Carida System), and accidentally killing his own brother.

Lethal Rating: 10/10

Kyp destroyed highly populated star systems, which gives him a big enough kill count to put him near the top of this list. However, he returned to the light side. Instead of being classed as a villain, he was forgiven immediately by Luke Skywalker and entered the Jedi Order.

1. The Yuuzhan Vong

Yuuzhan Vong

This marmite race from the Unknown Regions of space is either a favorite or despised by fans. They were around for a while before they decided to launch a full-scale invasion of the known universe. The “Vong” are religious zealots and hate technology in all its forms. Instead, they genetically engineered organic creatures into ships and weaponry, as well as altering themselves into formidable warriors. They are also cut off from the Force, which made it difficult for Luke Skywalker and the Jedi to predict what they were going to do next.

Best Kills: Killing Chewbacca and Anakin Solo (Leia and Han’s youngest son), causing Sernpidal’s moon to crash onto the planet’s surface. Burning the entire surface of Ithor, massacring refugees on Dantooine and Duros, destroying all life on Nar Shadda using biotoxins, taking Coruscant and terraforming it into a duplicate of their homeworld, and killing billions in the process.

Lethal Rating: 10,000/10

The Yuuzhan Vong decimated the galaxy. No one else comes close. They are, without a doubt, the most lethal villains in the Star Wars universe. Their preference for planetary genocide makes them much worse than anything we’ve seen onscreen so far. Even with the Death Star and his vast army, without being able to rely on the Force, Palpatine would not have stood a chance against them.
