Each new Marvel movie delivers bigger and better action scenes. The bus ride sequence in Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings delivers an intense martial arts face-off in a claustrophobic, chaotic environment. During the epic finale of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the Spider-Men trio web sling across precarious scaffolding to battle the baddies Electro, Sandman, and The Lizard.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has come to be known for its sense of humor almost as much as its brawls. Some popular superhero films like Robert Pattinson’s The Batman use a dark and gritty atmosphere, while the MCU offers a lighthearted take. Below are five of the funniest MCU moments that broke the tension with serious laughs.

5.  Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - Yondu Uses His Arrow

Violence, on rare occasions, can be hilarious. Viewers might be unsure if they are laughing with delight, horror, or a little of both at this violent scene. This odd feeling abounds in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Yondu Odonta, the blue space pirate who raises Peter Quill, summons his floating arrow with a whistle. As “Come a Little Bit Closer” by Jay and the Americans plays in the background, Yondu strolls through the hall and dispatches thugs with his arrow. The sight of countless baddies screaming and corpses falling from the sky is a sight to behold.

4. The Avengers (2012) - The Avengers Eat Shawarma

Saving the world is tough work. Throughout The Avengers, famous superheroes bicker with one another as they learn to work together. By the time they defeat Loki and the Chitauri in New York City, the Avengers are thoroughly exhausted.

The shawarma post-credits scene reminds audience members that even enhanced beings need a break once in a while. The Avengers portray the feeling of total burnout with nothing but chewing noises, groans, and frowns. It’s hard not to relate to this picture of despondency that is portrayed without a single line of dialogue.

3. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) - The Avengers Attempt To Lift Thor’s Hammer

During Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Avengers once again blow off some steam while eating takeout. As they hang out, Clint Barton calls out lifting Thor’s hammer as a mere trick. Thor invites Clint and the rest of the gang to try their luck with this so-called trick.

Each team member proceeds to take a whirl at this challenge. The cocky Tony Stark is humbled when even his Iron Man glove cannot make the hammer budge. The best part is Thor’s startled facial expression when Steve Rogers makes the hammer move ever so slightly.

2. Thor: Ragnorak (2017) - Thor Meets The Hulk

Action scenes do not always require badass one-liners to work. Sometimes, it works better to kick off a fight with a hit to the funny bone.

Thor, who was once known as the most self-serious Avenger, delights audiences with a major tone switch in Thor: Ragnarok. As Thor braces himself for battle in a gladiatorial arena, he realizes his foe is none other than the Hulk. Thor sets up a delightful mood by saying, “We know each other! He’s a friend from work!”

1. Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) - Thor Says Goodbye To Mjolnir

Thor’s transition from serious to silly continues in Thor: Love and Thunder. The film starts out with Thor ripping his new axe, Stormbreaker, out of the ground and riding away on it like a broomstick. A rivalry emerges throughout the film as Thor talks to Stormbreaker as if it is a rebound from his former great love, Mjolnir.

Mjolnir, as it turns out, has taken up with Thor’s actual ex, Jane Foster. During a flashback of a Halloween party, Thor tells Mjolnir to protect Jane while dressed as a hot dog. Thor may be trying to win back Jane, but the true love triangle is between Thor and his weapons.
