Harley Quinn faces Penguin

Most of the time we see people discussing the heroes of the story and giving very little attention to the villains, or the focus is on male villains like Darth Vader, Thanos, and the Joker. We often forget about how amazing female villains are, so today we are remedying that! In honor of Women’s History Month, we are taking a look at 5 of the best female villains across television and film!

5. Hela- Thor: Ragnarok

Any character portrayed by the legendary Cate Blanchett is going to be amazing, but Hela may be one of her best performances to date. She is a terrifying character because you are never sure what is going to upset her, and she is even more powerful than Thor and Loki. I was disappointed to only get one movie with her character because she was amazing and easily the best villain to be introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Thor: Ragnarok is available to watch on Disney+.

4. Android 18- Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super

We didn’t get to see much of Android 18 as a villain because she does get saved by the Z-Force and become Krillin’s wife, but what we do get is amazing! She and her brother 17 are so powerful that they wipe out all of the Z Fighters in a future timeline which is something that no other villain has been able to do. She is incredibly powerful and yet as a hero, she is kind and gentle.

Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball Super are available to watch on Funimation.

3. Poison Ivy- DC

Ivy has always been one of the best female villains in DC. Her most notable appearances in film were in Batman and Robin and most recently in HBO Max’s Harley Quinn. Fans have been begging for her character to be utilized more because she is so complex, and in Harley Quinn, we really get to know her character and the struggles that she faces living in our concrete world. Her ability to control all plant matter around her makes her one of the most powerful villains ever because she is almost never without a weapon. I hope we start to get more of this character in the new DCU

Seasons 1- 3 of Harley Quinn are available to stream on HBO Max

2. Himiko Toga- My Hero Academia

Toga is easily the scariest anime villain I have ever seen. She seems crazy and yet she outwits almost every hero she encounters. Her quirk adds to the overall evil feel of her character, and her innocent schoolgirl-inspired costume makes it easy for her to lure in her victims. We haven’t seen much of her in the most recent episodes of the show, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that she will be back soon!

Seasons 1- 4 of My Hero Academia are available to watch on Funimation.

1. Harley Quinn- DC

Harley has always been my favorite female villain because she is one of the few that show growth over their time on our screens and in comic books. Harley starts out as the sidekick to Mista J, and now in 2023, she is becoming somewhat of a hero with her very own show! She has a great sense of humor and always brings depth and complexity to the story she is in. Her style is iconic, and every iteration of her character seems to bring something new. Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn was one of the first versions of the character where we saw her emotional depth and what she truly wanted out of life.

Seasons 1- 3 of Harley Quinn are available to watch on HBO Max.
