8 Female-Led 'Star Wars' Series That We Would Love Disney To Green-Light

There is no doubt that Disney has produced some excellent series since they have taken over the Star Wars franchise, The Mandalorian and Andor have been some of the highest-rated shows on the network. Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Book of Boba Fett gave us insights into existing fan favorites. However, there is one common theme among these four shows. They all have male protagonists. With Ahsoka coming to our screens at some point this year, we finally have a Star Wars show fronted by a woman. This franchise is behind Marvel and DC, who have been aiming projects at their female audiences (Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Star-Girl, Supergirl) for a long time. What female-led Star Wars projects would we love to see Disney bring to life?

8. Admiral Rae Sloane And A Crumbling Empire

After Endor, keeping the Empire together fell to Admiral Rae Sloane. She became Grand Admiral, leading a Shadow Council that included Brendol Hux (Armitage Hux’s father). Sloane has to deal with as many enemies from within her inner circle as she does from the Rebellion. Featured heavily in Chuck Wendig’s canon book series Aftermath, it feels as if LucasFilm is setting her up to come to the screen eventually in some form or another. A series based around Sloane trying to hold together a crumbling Empire against the odds would fill in some of the time gaps between Endor and the sequel trilogy.

7. Nomi Sunrider

It is widely acknowledged that the Padmé/Anakin romance in Star Wars was not handled well. Their scenes on Naboo in Attack of The Clones were cringeworthy. Star Wars needs to prove that they can do the sci-fi romance genre correctly, and Nomi Sunrider and Ulic Qel Droma’s story from Legends graphic novels and books. The Jedi were both active during the Old Republic era, but Qel Droma fell to the dark side. Like every good Star Wars love story, it ended tragically, but with Droma’s redemption.

Unlike the other stories in the saga, Nomi was the more powerful Jedi and the protagonist in her story. Disney should definitely bring her into the canon.

6. Doctor Aphra

Doctor Aphra has had two popular comics runs (2016 and 2020) and could easily front her own series. Marketed as “Indiana Jones in Space,” the rogue archaeologist meets with several established characters like Vader, Lando, and Luke in her hunt for treasure. Her comics were recognized at the GLAAD Media Awards, in part due to the complexity of Aphra’s character.

She was heavily involved in one of Darth Vader’s many attempts to overthrow Palpatine, and that could make an interesting series, especially with Hayden Christensen back in the fold.

5. Aurra Sing And The Young Boba Fett

The distinctive bounty hunter appears on-screen briefly in The Phantom Menace during the podrace. She is more prominently featured in The Clone Wars animated series where we see her team up with the teenage Boba Fett in an effort to take out Mace Windu. In canon, she acted as a mother figure to him in his formative years, but any bonding likely takes place over weapons fire rather than snuggles in a cockpit like Grogu and Din Djarin. Considering all the baggage this pair has, a series would write itself.

4. Natasi Daala Going Rogue With Her Star Destroyer Fleet

If you are not familiar with the Legends/Expanded Universe books, Nataasi Daala was Tarkin’s protégé, who was assigned to a remote secret military installation to develop more superweapons during the events of the original trilogy. She had no idea about the death of the Emperor or her mentor until Han Solo stumbled upon the base. Daala was not best pleased. She assumed command of the four Star Destroyers posted at The Maw and went on a rampage (Solo did manage to stop her from getting the superweapon they had been developing). Daala proved difficult to get rid of, despite several attempts from all sides to take her out. Her political savvy and ruthlessness eventually put her at the head of the New Republic.

Daala going rogue with her own personal fleet, carving up the galaxy is something we would tune in for!

3. Qi’ra And Crimson Dawn’s Assassination Attempt

Qi’ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story is very different from the Qi’ra in the comics. She became the head of the Crimson Dawn after the events of the film. Qi’ra had plans to kill Palpatine and Vader, and recruited the Knights of Ren to help. Despite having no Force potential, she faced off against Vader. Qi’ra’s links to Maul could also bring him into a series via flashbacks. A series based on the Crimson Reign series would be amazing!

2. Barriss Offee And Luminara Unduli

Most of the Jedi master and apprentice pairings we see on screen are male, and it would be refreshing to look at the struggles and weaknesses of the Jedi Order from a female perspective. There is arguably just as much conflict between the personalities of these two as with Obi-Wan and Anakin. Luminara was an archetypal detached Jedi. A writer would have a field day using this to slowly break down her passionate Padawan Barriss.

On Disney+, actors would not be restricted by George Lucas’ clumsy dialog or film time limits. Let’s face it. The fall to the dark side really needs a series. Barriss Offee is a fan-favorite and there have been calls for her to return to the screen for some time, and we agree.

1. Kreia (Darth Traya) And The First Jedi Purge

Darth Traya

Sheev Palpatine was not the first Sith Lord to get the idea to eradicate the Jedi. Originally appearing in the video game Knights Of The Old Republic II: Sith Lords, a trio of Sith Lords that included Darth Traya started assassinating Jedi. They were so successful that they were nearly wiped out the Order.

Kreia was more interesting than other Sith Lords (and other Jedi who have been exiled from the Jedi Order) because she did not view the Force as a benign entity, a benevolent force, or a tool to be used like other characters we have seen. She saw it as a trickster playing with people’s lives for its own amusement and it deserved to be eradicated from the galaxy.

There have been lots of online discussions about the potential for a horror/noir-style Star Wars series, and this could get really dark if it stays true to the original game. A Candyman-esque series with a relatable villain at its center would be perfect for Darth Traya and is sure to be a hit.

Outside of live-action Star Wars, there is a plethora of women who deserve the chance to be at the center of their own series and/or films. Star Wars has been guilty in the past of neglecting its female fanbase, but they will not win over the new politically aware Gen-Z this way. Young girls now have access to vast amounts of content aimed at them, and if Star Wars does not adapt then it risks alienating fifty percent of the population, wives, mothers, and daughters who have vast spending power for merchandise, as well as views on Disney+. If Lucasfilm is smart, Ahsoka will be the first of many
