Top 10 Quotes From ‘The Clones Wars’
The Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-2014, 2020) television series is highly regarded among the Star Wars fandom. From a storytelling standpoint, it is one of the most essential pieces of Star Wars media. It introduces crucial characters like Ahsoka Tano, Bo-Katan Kryze, and Captain Rex but also fleshes out several characters. The most vital of these is Anakin Skywalker. The series shows us pivotal events that slowly erode Anakin's trust in the Jedi Order, making his transition to Darth Sidious' tutelage less abrupt in the film Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005).
With the series now concluded and its last season finally airing on Disney+ in 2020, we want to look back at some of the quotes that stood out. Maybe they alluded to events later, perhaps they satisfied a long-standing curiosity, or maybe they explained something about a character we never considered. So here are our top 10 quotes from Star Wars: The Clone Wars!
RELATED:
10. "I hope you at least told Padmé I said hello."
This first quote is spoken by Obi-Wan Kenobi in an episode in the final season titled "A Distant Echo." Captain Rex is attempting to cover for Anakin while he takes a call from his wife, Senator Padmé Amidala. Anakin brushes the situation off, but Obi-Wan reveals that he fully understood the nature of the situation. This fulfills a curiosity of the fandom. With the two of them being so open with their affection, did Obi-Wan always know, and the answer was seemingly yes.
9. "I thought she meant something to you."
This dig was aimed at Obi-Wan Kenobi by Bo-Katan Kryze in the episode "Old Friends Not Forgotten." When Obi-Wan does not immediately jump to help her and Ahsoka Tano apprehend Maul on Mandalore, she jabs at him about the affection he holds for her sister. This hit hard because Obi-Wan has revealed he cared for her very much and had to learn to focus on his duty to the Jedi Order.
8. "I still plan on celebrating this victory with my padawan in person."
Anakin Skywalker says this to Jedi Master Luminara Unduli in the episode "Weapons Factory" after their padawans were stuck in the rubble of the factory. This is one of the most character-revealing moments for Anakin throughout the series. With their padawans' fates in doubt, Jedi Master Unduli expresses, "If my padawan has perished, I will mourn her. But I will celebrate her as well through her memory." To which Anakin replies with the above. This illustrated a theme with Anakin, he will not readily accept death as the will of the Force when it pertains to his loved ones. Instead, he will fight for them even to his own detriment.
7. "Good soldiers follow orders."
The quote occurs in an episode titled "The Unknown." Tup is a clone trooper who erroneously enacts the protocols that follow the execution of Order 66. He hauntingly repeats the line and kills Jedi General Tiplar. This quote calls to mind the greater machinations at play with the war. It reminds both that this is all one plan at a macro level. It also brings to mind, once again, that these clones had minds and hearts.
6. "I am one with the Force, and the Force is with me."
In an episode titled "Shattered," Ahsoka finds her world falling apart for the second time in her life. One of her closest friends, Captain Rex, and the rest of her clone allies have turned on her. The shots they chose for this episode illustrate that Rex is fighting his inhibitor chip. While she waits for a medical scanning machine to be ready for use, she repeats the line most affiliated with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) character Chirrut Îmwe as she uses the Force to ease his mind.
5. "Soon, the Jedi and the Republic will no longer be the controlling interest in the galaxy."
This point is made by Maul in the episode "Phantom Apprentice." However, one of the series' greatest gifts was more Maul content. Over the course of the series, we see him broken and then reborn. We see his arrogance brought down by Darth Sidious, and we also see him become wise. He is no less obsessed, but he does come to understand Darth Sidious' vision for the galaxy, a vision he attempts to warn Ahsoka of.
4. "If we aren't willing to do what it takes to win, we risk losing everything we try to protect."
In an episode titled "Citadel Rescue," Anakin expresses this philosophical viewpoint to Obi-Wan. This illustrates something interesting about Anakin. Apart from the obvious reasons he left the Jedi Order, his personal politics and philosophy were often at odds with it regardless. This was hinted at in his conversations with Padmé in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002). There are several reasons for this, but I primarily connect this to his upbringing as an enslaved person and the brutality he was exposed to.
3. "How many other lies have I been told by the council."
In an episode called "Crisis on Naboo," Anakin discovers that Rako Hardeen was actually Obi-Wan Kenobi working an undercover mission. Anakin is offended that he was not allowed to know that it was him and thought his master had been killed. This was a significant building block toward distrusting the Jedi Order and Jedi Council.
2. "I'm sorry, Master, but I'm not coming back."
The episode "The Wrong Jedi" pulled at Star Wars fans' hearts. Ahsoka Tano elects to leave the Jedi Order after being wrongfully accused of crimes against the Republic. However, after seeing how the Jedi Council did not give her the benefit of the doubt, aside from Anakin, she heartbreakingly departs.
1. "At the crossroad, only he can choose."
In an episode titled "Ghosts of Mortis," Father shares this wisdom with Obi-Wan Kenobi. This episode foreshadows Darth Vader's decision to rescue his son and fulfill his destiny as The Chosen One in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983).
