Live-Action ‘Tangled’ Dream Cast
Disney announced earlier this month that they had green-lit a live-action remake of 2010’s Tangled. The animated film starred Mandy Moore as Rapunzel and Zachary Levi as her love interest, Flynn Rider. The story follows Rapunzel as she is “rescued” from her tower by Flynn, who is a criminal running from his former partners. The musical numbers were one of the best things about the film, and since the live-action remake was announced, fans on social media have been putting together their dream casts. I have put together my own dream cast that features the main characters and a few of my favorite side characters.
10. Maximus - Jack
I love Maximus and the attitude that he brings to the film. While Disney is known for overusing CGI, especially when it comes to animals, I am hoping that they will reconsider and use an actual horse. Jack has been used in Bridgerton season 2 and Wicked, so he has already shown that he is amazing on camera. He typically works with Jonathan Bailey, and while I have not included him in this dream cast, I would not be opposed to him taking over one of the main roles!

9. King Frederick - Jeff Goldblum
In the animated film, the King and Queen play a very small role, but I am hoping that in the live-action remake they may be given a larger role. I would especially love it if they were given a song or two in the film. Many of the dream casts I have seen have cast younger actors in this role, but I think that older actors would be a better fit. Jeff Goldblum is incredible, and I think that he would make the perfect king!
8. Queen Arianna - Catherine O’Hara
Catherine O’Hara is a Disney queen and has been in their films for decades. She was everywhere in the 90s, and I want to see her on screen more! I think that she would be an incredible Queen, especially paired with Jeff Goldblum as the King. I can only imagine the improv we could get with the two of them.
7. Hook Hand Thug - Dave Bautista
The thugs in the film may not seem like a big deal to some fans, but they play a major role, in my opinion. The Hook Hand Thug helps save Flynn and Rapunzel more than once, so he must be cast perfectly. I would love to see Dave Bautista in this role, especially if he brought a little bit of Drax’s humor with him. There is no other actor that could fit this role perfectly.
6. Short Thug - Danny Devito
The Short Thug might not play as big of a role in the film as the Hook Hand Thug, but he still holds a special place in my heart. I think that Danny Devito would be a perfect fit because his humor perfectly fits the brand of this character, and I really miss seeing him in films.
5. Captain of the Guard - Jon Hamm
The Captain of the Guard is a major player in the film and has a ton of personality, so we must get an actor who can perfectly fill those boots. I originally thought that Nick Offerman would be a good fit until my husband said that he thought Jon Hamm would be better, and now I can’t imagine anyone else in this role. Jon Hamm has so much personality, especially when you see him in Good Omens, and that is exactly what this role needs!
4. Stabbington Brothers - Chris and Luke Hemsworth
The Stabbington Brothers are another pair of roles that have to be filled perfectly. They need to be gruff but also still kind of likeable, and I think that the role must be filled by actual brothers. The way that these characters feed off one another is going to feel more realistic in a live-action film if the chemistry is real. There are so many options for brothers in Hollywood, but I think that Chris and Luke Hemsworth not only match the look of the characters but also have a filmography that proves they will do the role flawlessly.
3. Mother Gothel - Kathryn Hahn
Mother Gothel is one of the most important roles in the film because she can’t just be played by anyone. Mother Gothel has a very specific aura about her, and the actress that fills this role needs to have the same aura for it to work. I think that Kathryn Hahn is the perfect fit because she can sing, and the aura of Agatha Harkness is the same as that of Mother Gothel. The only other option for this role is Cher, in my opinion.
2. Flynn Rider - Milo Manheim
Milo is slowly making himself more known to audiences, and I think that he is the perfect fit for Flynn Rider. Not only does he look like the character, but he also carries himself like Flynn. Fans need to remember that in the film, Flynn is in his 20s, so it would be odd to cast someone who looks significantly older.
1. Rapunzel - Sabrina Carpenter
When I heard about the live-action Tangled, the only person that came to mind for Rapunzel was Sabrina Carpenter. Not only does she look like Rapunzel, but she also has the voice and the attitude of the character. I am pretty open on most of these casting choices, but it will take a lot of convincing for me to accept anyone other than Sabrina for this role.
You can stream Tangled on Disney+.
