While Netflix is the OG streaming service and one of the companies believed to have been the downfall of Blockbuster, it has lost its shine amongst viewers. The streaming service has been in the news for a while due to the loss of subscribers and blocking users from sharing passwords.

They didn’t have the best horror catalog when compared to other services that I looked at, but they did have some good options. They are definitely the right choice if you’re looking for horror series, but here are 10 horror films to add to your spooky season watchlist that are currently streaming on Netflix.

10. Wednesday (2022-Present)

Okay, I know that Wednesday is a series and not a horror film, but with only eight episodes, it can easily be watched in movie form over the weekend or just a long night. Plus, who doesn’t want to watch Jenna Ortega breathe new life into Wednesday Addams? The series follows Wednesday as she attends her parents’ former school, Nevermore Academy. She swears to break out of the school, but soon she finds herself at the center of a centuries-old secret.

9. Malevolent (2018)

This is one of Florence Pugh’s films that flew under the radar for pretty much everyone. I didn’t know it existed until I was looking through Netflix’s horror catalog for this article. The film follows a brother-sister paranormal team that con people out of money by convincing them that they can see spirits. Things are going well until they are called to a country home where things take a very real and horrifying turn.

8. The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020)

This is a sequel to 2017’s The Babysitter which did fairly well with audiences, especially on social media. The new film takes place two years after the first and sees Cole battling the horrors of high school. He is thrust into another battle of good vs evil when enemies from the first film return. This film is hysterical and doesn’t take itself seriously for even a second.

7. Unfriended (2014)

This film took over social media in 2014 when it was first released. It was this generation’s Blair Witch Project except instead of shaky video cameras in the woods we had characters alone in their homes talking over Skype. The film follows a group of friends who are hanging out on Skype when someone joins under a screen name they don’t recognize.

They ignore it as a glitch until one of them begins receiving messages from the person claiming to be their friend who killed herself one year prior. The group is then forced to face their darkest secrets as the unknown user demands to know the truth about a video of their friend that led to her death.

6. The Invitation (2022)

This is a great vampire film that I feel most people haven’t seen. It follows a young woman who does a DNA test after her mother dies leaving her with no other family. She discovers a long lost cousin and after meeting, she is invited to a wedding where she will have the opportunity to meet the rest of her family. Joy soon turns to horror as she uncovers the truth about her family and the real intention behind her invitation.

5. The Pope’s Exorcist (2023)

This is the newest film on this list and the most surprising. When this film was first announced, few people expected it to be very good, but it turned out to be absolutely terrifying and is already getting a sequel. It follows the chief exorcist for the Vatican as he battles demons and even Satan himself. The film features multiple cases and provides a fascinating look at some of the rumored 100,000 cases that the exorcist took on during his lifetime.

4. Prom Night (2008)

This is a reboot of the 1980 film starring Jamie Lee Curtis, and it is also the fifth installment in the franchise. This film follows a high school student who is struggling with nightmares about her former teacher who stalked her and then murdered her family.

She is encouraged by her counselor to look forward and enjoy her prom night. Unfortunately, the teacher has escaped and is on his way to the prom.

3. There’s Someone Inside Your House (2021)

The film is based on the novel of the same name by Stephanie Perkins. It follows a group of high school students who are forced to come face-to-face with their darkest secrets as they are hunted down by a killer who wears masks of his intended victim’s face and leaves pictures exposing their secrets for authorities to find along with their bodies.

2. Warm Bodies (2013)

Before Nicholas Hoult gave us the hysterical R.M. Renfield, he played a lonely Zombie named R in this horror romcom. The film follows R who rescues a living woman when he sees her being attacked by zombies. He helps her find shelter and then escorts her back to her people. After seeing that he is different, the two form a strange bond that ends up proving that all hope may not be lost. This film has a really cool concept, and the ending is great!

1. Fear Street Trilogy (2021)

I talk about these movies every chance I get because they are some of my very favorites! The film trilogy follows a group of friends who are thrust into a nightmare when the curse of Shadyside strikes close to home. As they attempt to outrun the dead and uncover the truth about their town and its curse, they are taken from 1994 to 1978 and eventually to 1666 when the town was established. These movies have a lot of gore in them, but if you are a fan of the Fear Street books, you will love these!
