If you are looking for the best streaming service for horror movies, look no further! I was surprised to find that Max has the best library of horror films of any other streaming service. One of the best things about Max is that they have all of the films in multiple different horror franchises. Plus they have some fun horror/Halloween content that falls into the DCEU, and they have a ton of Cartoon Network series that are perfect for spooky season, like Courage the Cowardly Dog and Scooby Doo! So, here are 10 of the best horror movies currently available to stream on Max

10. The Blade Trilogy (1998-2004)

These are great for fans of the MCU since they are based on Marvel comics! The Blade films follow a half-human/half-immortal vampire hunter as he works to eradicate the world of vampires. The vampires he is hunting are also hunting him as they need his special blood type for their own horrifying schemes.

The first film follows parents who are forced to bring in paranormal investigators after they learn that their home is haunted, and their young son falls into a coma. The second film follows the aftermath of the first, and we get to see how the family is doing and what new horrors are going to follow them to their new home. These films are filled with jump scares and make for great spooky season viewing!

8. The Conjuring Universe (2013-2021)

The Conjuring

Max has every movie in the The Conjuring franchise except for The Conjuring 2. You can find the first and third films as well as the entire Annabelle trilogy and The Nun. The films follow legendary paranormal investigators and demonologists, Ed and Lorraine Warren, as they travel the world trying to help families impacted by the paranormal. The Nun and the Annabelle trilogy are directly linked to “villains” seen in the first and second films.

7. Sorority Row (2009)

This film isn’t for everyone, but if you like campy slashers then it is for you! The film follows a group of former sorority sisters who reunite a year after they covered up a horrifying prank gone wrong. They soon realize that someone knows what they did and is picking off the girls one by one. This film has a great twist and a fun cameo by the late Carrie Fisher

6. Orphan (2009)

After losing their unborn child, a couple decides to travel to their local orphanage to adopt. After meeting Esther, the family thinks that their prayers have been answered. Unfortunately, the orphan is harboring a horrifying secret, and she will stop at nothing to have what she wants. This film has one of the best twists in modern horror, and its prequel, Orphan: First Kill, is easily as good as the first.

5. Friday The 13th Franchise (1980-1993)

Friday The 13th

The only movies in the decades-long Friday the 13th franchise that are not available are Jason X and the 2009 reboot. The first film follows a group of counselors who are preparing to reopen Camp Crystal Lake. Unfortunately, someone wants the camp to stay closed, and they are willing to do anything to keep it closed. The rest of the franchise follows Jason Vorhees as he terrorizes camp counselors and later travels out into the world to continue his killings.

4. IT & IT Chapter Two (2017-2019)

Pennywise

The first film follows a group of outcasts who are thrust into a world of terror after a killer clown named Pennywise begins to terrorize their town. They are forced to battle the clown to save themselves and their friends. The second film takes place 27 years after the first film and forces the now-grown friends to return to Derry to put an end to the evil clown. There is so much fascinating lore that is brought into the second film that it makes it easily as great as the first film.

3. Halloween Kills (2021)

While many Halloween fans did not like this film, it is one of my favorites. I’m sad that Max only has this film in the franchise, but it is one of the best films in the franchise. It follows Laurie Strode, her granddaughter, and her daughter as they are still reeling from the events of Halloween (2018). While Laurie is stuck in the local hospital, the townspeople decide to take matters into their own hands as they attempt to track down and stop Michael Myers once and for all. The film has the best ending of any Halloween film except maybe the first film!

2. Sleepy Hollow (1999)

Sleepy Hollow

This is one of Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci’s best films ever! The film breathes new life into Washington Irving’s 1820 short story. Set in the late 1700s, a young doctor is sent to the small New York town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate the decapitations of three people. He soon learns that there are supernatural elements at play, and he will have to think outside of his books if he is going to save the town and the woman he loves.

1. A Nightmare On Elm Street Franchise (1984-2010)

A Nightmare On Elm Street

Every film in the franchise is available to stream except for Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare which is the sixth film in the franchise. Thankfully, that is the worst film in the original franchise, so you aren’t missing anything. The franchise follows slasher Freddy Krueger who stalks the teens of Elm Street in their dreams. In each film, there is a new group of teens who are forced to battle Freddy as their friends drop dead around them. I love these movies because there is so much thought put into the lore of Freddy and his past.
