Best Family Friendly Halloween Movies Available On Disney+
Don’t worry! This year I have you covered with a list of 10 of the best family-friendly movies currently streaming on Disney+ that will make the perfect addition to your spooky season watchlist!
RELATED:
10. Spooky Shorts
This technically isn’t a movie but you can’t beat the old Disney shorts! There are tons available on the app, but my personal favorites are Trick or Treat and Lonesome Ghosts. Each short is roughly 10 minutes long and typically features classic characters like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.
9. Lego Star Wars Terrifying Tales (2021)
This movie is great for Star Wars fans of all ages! The film follows Poe and BB-8 who have unfortunately crash-landed on Mustafar and must make their way through Vader’s castle if they are going to get help. T
hey meet different characters along the way, but when they meet Vader’s former attendant, Vaneé, she tells them three terrifying stories centering on ancient artifacts and villains.
8. Phantom of the Megaplex (2000)
This is a classic Disney Original Movie that most millennials will recognize immediately. The film is a bit of a Phantom of the Opera spoof, minus the singing. When a 17-year-old theater worker begins setting up for a star-studded premiere, strange things begin to happen around the Megaplex. These occurrences reawaken the legend of the Phantom of the Megaplex.
7. Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire (2000)
This is another classic Disney Original Movie and easily one of my favorites! The film follows a group of kids who have big plans for a night out, but first, they have to get their mom out of the house. After setting her up with a mysterious man, they think all their problems are solved. That is until they realize that he is a vampire, and now they have to save their mom!
6. Frankenweenie (2012)
This film by Tim Burton is both spooky and sweet! You can also find the original 1984 film on Disney+. This film follows a young boy named Victor who unfortunately loses his best friend, Sparky. Thanks to Victor’s love of science he is able to bring his beloved dog back, but when someone steals his secret, there are monstrous consequences!
5. Coco (2017)
This incredible movie is available in Spanish, and there is a sing-a-long version available! The film follows a young boy who wants nothing more than to be a musician.
Unfortunately, his family forbids it which leads him on a journey through his ancestry and unravels a gut-wrenching family secret. The imagery of this film is some of the most beautiful you will see in any animated film!
4. The Haunted Mansion (2003)
This film follows a real estate agent who stops by a large mansion on his way out of town with his family. They soon learn that the mansion he was asked to sell is actually haunted and that the spirits there are trapped in a curse that only his family can break. While this film divided fans of the beloved Disney ride that it was based on, it is a great film and fun for everyone! The 2023 Haunted Mansion will be arriving on Disney+ on October 4, so you can check out both this spooky season!
3. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
What better time to watch this amazing film than the year it turns 30! There is also a sing-a-long version available to stream. The film follows the Pumpkin King who has become bored with Halloween and its traditions. After discovering that there are other holidays, he decides to steal Christmas and let Santa take the year off to rest. Unfortunately, not everyone is as excited about his plan, and he risks ruining Christmas and losing his life!
2. Hocus Pocus 1 & 2 (1993 & 2022)
Another amazing film turning 30 this year, Hocus Pocus is truly a film that never gets old! The first follows the Sanderson sisters who are unleashed on the town of Salem after a teen lights their black flame candle. The second film sees the sisters back in Salem after someone else lights the black flame candle. Both films see a group of teens taking on the sisters to stop them before dawn on Halloween.
1. Halloweentown Franchise (1998-2006)
Disney+ has all four movies in the franchise, but if you only have time for one or two then I would recommend checking out the original and the third film in the franchise, Halloweentown High. The first film follows Marnie and her two younger siblings as they follow their grandmother to a magic place known as Halloweentown. There they learn why their mother is so against Halloween, and they must work as a family to stop a dark evil from destroying the beloved town. The other films in the franchise follow Marnie and her family as new evils arise as their family gets stronger.
