Echo is perhaps one of the more legendary clones in that he shares a unique trait that few other clones have. There is feigning death successfully but then feigning death successfully regularly and deciding to join the space version of the A-team. Here are five iconic moments from Echo’s military career so far.
5. Failed Graduation Exam With Domino Squad

Echo’s initial graduation examination with the Domino squad was originally a repeat failure. The trials that Echo endures with the Domino squad can be viewed in the first episode of season three of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The bounty hunters trained Echo and the rest of the clone army under the supervision of Jedi Masters like Shaak-Ti. These initial trials gave Echo his codename and formed his identity going forward. Echo’s brothers dubbed him as such for Echo’s relentless adherence to the rulebook and echoing every order given. Each member of the Domino squad pushed one another to be the best trooper. Domino squad wanted to become ARC Troopers. Unfortunately, the Domino squad’s cohesion suffered due to their somewhat quirky nature and failure in their teamwork. After the Domino squad’s final trial as clone cadets, Domino squad overcame their bleak odds with teamwork and managed to succeed, only to be sent to the Rishi moon outpost.

4. Joined The 501st Legion

In the first season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Echo’s first post was supposed to be a tedious mission, and boring usually means safe. However, safe is the last thing Echo was at the Rishi moon. Once the Domino squad’s guard duty began, the Separatists’ droid commandos picked off the Republic soldiers one by one. Eventually, the clone recruits flee outside and attract the attention of Captain Rex and Commander Cody, who save the recruits from a giant clone-eating space eel known as a Rishi eel. As a raw clone recruit, Echo, with his firm adherence to the rules, was able to listen to Captain Rex and Commander Cody on the way to overtake and destroy the station successfully. Once Hevy sacrifices himself and teaches Echo the meaning of sacrifice, Echo and Fives are recruited into the 501st Legion. This is one of the key victories that would come to forge Echo and Hevy but also the 501st Legion led by Anakin Skywalker and Captain Rex.
3. Became An ARC Trooper

After the total annihilation of the Rishi moon outpost, Fives and Echo were sent to Kamino to defend their home from an impending Separatist attack. During the Battle of Kamino, Fives and Echo display valor by defending and holding dangerous checkpoints from B-2 super battle droids and saving the young clone cadets. Fortunately for Echo and Hevy, they managed to avoid General Grievous and Assaj Ventress, which is good because those villains can really twirl their lightsabers into clones. Unfortunately for Echo, he would experience another heavy loss at the hands of his mentor, Ninety-Nine. Ninety-Nine would needlessly sacrifice himself to retrieve the thermal detonators needed to push back separatist opposition. This sacrifice, along with Hevy, would gravely influence Echo’s decision at the Citadel and forge Echo into an entirely new trooper. This potential would be seen by Captain Rex, and Rex would order to have Echo and Fives to be trained as ARC Troopers.
2. Sacrifice At The Citadel

For many, the episodes ‘Counter-Attack’ and ‘Citadel Rescue’ are bittersweet as they introduce classic characters like Wilhuff Tarkin before the Galactic Empire and an armorless clone fighting alongside his armored brothers as they die to spiders and Separatists droids. Unfortunately, Echo would meet his first untimely demise here and suffer grave injuries. At this point, Echo fans would have to wait ten years to find out what happened to their favorite valorous and loyal ARC Trooper. Echo would do everything he could to secure a means of transport and defend his fellow Republic fighters. Echo would be blasted to literal pieces, and the order not to retrieve Echo was given, not knowing Echo had survived his fatal accident. ARC Trooper Fives would go on believing that Echo was dead.
1. Became More Machine Than Man

Echo had died once at the Citadel but was robbed of an honorable death at the hands of Separatists. It would not be until much later during the Clone War that Echo’s surviving the Citadel blast would be revealed. Once Captain Rex and Commander Cody reveal Echo’s location in the episode ‘A Distant Echo,’ they travel to Skako Minor with Clone Force 99 to retrieve Echo unknowing that it is Echo. Once Echo is freed, it is revealed that his cybernetics allow him to “scomp” into most networks like an astromech, giving him much faster processing power than an ordinary clone. Echo’s uniqueness would make Echo a black sheep in the Grand Army of the Republic but not in Clone Force 99, which operated separately from the main clone army. Before being recruited into the Bad Batch, Echo rejoins Anakin and Captain Rex to seek revenge on Admiral Trench by reverse-hacking the Separatist network during a key battle on Anaxes. Echo would join the Bad Batch dawning his ARC Trooper equipment in Clone Force 99 fashion.
