5 Things You Need To Know Before Playing 'Jedi: Survivor'

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the long-awaited sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It continues the story of Cal Kestis and his crew trying to evade the Empire. The hotly anticipated game is now only a few short weeks away.
There is also a book written by Sam Maggs that is coming out the week before the game, which tells fans what happened to Cal and the crew during the time between the two games. There is a lot that happened in the first game, and so to get familiar in time for the sequel, here are five major events that happened in the first game.

5. AT-AT On Kashyyyk

When Cal gets to the Wookie home world of Kashyyyk, he takes over an AT-AT walker. Here is he able to make his way safely through the planet, while shooting stormtroopers, and anything Imperial-shaped.
Saw Gerrera even makes an appearance. Cal keeps going and shooting anything that could be considered Imperial until the walker is no good. The entire scene is a lot of fun, especially because you are controlling an AT-AT and getting to shoot everything in sight.
4. Cal Witnessing Order 66

We see flashbacks of Cal and his master, Jaro Topal throughout the game. The eeriest one, however, comes during the Order 66 flashback. We see Jaro sacrifice himself to save Cal. Cal even sees when Emperor Palpatine’s message is sent out to the clones. Cal then has to make his way through empty corridors, while trying to escape the clones that are now out to kill him. This moment really shaped Cal and his journey that we see play out during the game.
3. Darth Vader Appearing

An extremely shocking cameo from the franchise’s most iconic villain. Darth Vader strikes down the Second Sister for failing him. It sets up the scene for the final boss fight, but instead turns into a chase scene, with Cal trying to escape the clutches of the ruthless Sith lord. The entire counter is terrifying, and exciting all at the same time.
2. Cal Meeting Merrin

Cal meets Merrin on her home world of Dathomir. She was a survivor of General Grievous’s massacre of the Nightsisters. Merrin meets Jedi Master Taron Malicos, who crash lands on Dathomir, after Order 66. He later turns to the Dark Side and manipulates Merrin in order to learn her magic.
When she meets Cal, she considers him an enemy, as he wields a blade, similar to what killed her family. Cal assures her that he is very much on her side, and shares his grief-stricken past. Together, they come up with a way to defeat Malicos. After defeating Malicos, she joins Cal’s crew on the Mantis, and their mission is to restore the Jedi Order and fight the Empire.
1. Cal Building His Lightsaber

Cal ventures to Ilum to find a kyber crystal in order to craft his lightsaber. Since the Jedi are no more, kyber crystals are not easy to come by. However, Cal gets lucky and finds the last one, until it breaks in his hand. He loses hope until BD-1 shows a hologram of his former master, who reminds Cal that “failure is not the end. It is a necessary part of the path. Hope will always survive in those who continue to fight”. This inspires Cal and brings his spirits back up. He then goes on to craft the iconic double-bladed lightsaber.
There are many exciting things to look forward to in Jedi: Survivor, but a lot of time has passed between the two games as well. These moments from Jedi: Fallen Order were essential for Cal’s journey. If the sequel is anything like the first game, then fans are in for an exciting ride.
