5. His First Appearance Was In 1945
Black Adam made his first comic appearance in The Marvel Family #1 in December 1945. The comic book was created by Bill Parker, C.C. Beck, and Jerry Ordway.
4. He Was The Son Of A Pharaoh
Black Adam, much like other superheroes, has had his origin revised several times since his original iteration in 1945. Dwayne Johnson’s portrayal will align with the reconstruction of the character in The New 52. However, initially, the character was the son of Pharaoh Ramses II. Commonly known as “Ramses The Great,” Pharaoh Ramses II is remembered for city and monument production, celebrating many festivals, allocating a new capital city, and conquering.
3. He Is An Enemy Of Shazam
Shazam and Black Adam are inherently adversarial. Despite being on opposite sides of the coin in terms of super beings they align themselves with, it goes ways beyond that. Their disconnect is levels deeper. From the perspective of some who was once enslaved, Black Adam’s divine gift gives him divine purpose. Shazam’s power, combined with his youthful naïveté, is an affront to the privilege of superior power. It is good and bad but also a life perspective and responsibility.
2. His Family Was Murdered
Every iteration of Black Adam sees him suffer through traumatic events in his life. However, one of the most painful was the murder of his family. His wife and son, Isis and Osiris, respectively, were killed by the Four Horsemen of Apokolips. This served as the impetus for a tremendously destructive streak from Black Adam that saw the destruction of Bialya and greater damage beyond that. After this, he dedicated himself to finding a way to bring about their resurrection.
1. He Has The Power Of Egyptian Deities
The DC Comics Encyclopedia notes the powers of Black Adam as coming from Shu (stamina), Heru (speed), Amon (strength), Zehuit (wisdom), Aton (power), and Mehen (courage). The divine nature of his powers is conveyed in the proportional challenges and decisions he confronts. He is not married to a system of morality or an obligation of justice. In fact, we often see him rampaging all of the worlds. Regarding the types of decisions he faces, a large one is hinted at in trailers for the new film. Black Adam may have to decide if humans are worthy of survival.
