15 Celebrity Cameos You Missed In Star Wars

George Lucas cameo

Marvel isn’t the only franchise that enjoys an easter egg. Star Wars has plenty of cameos that a fan with a keen eye can look out for. Below are fifteen big stars that have small roles in your favorite movies. See if you can spot them!

1. George Lucas

George has a non-speaking role in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith as Anakin meets Palpatine, just before the infamous ‘do you know the tale of Darth Plagueis’ scene. Hayden Christensen is running up the stairs and Lucas can be seen in full blue make-up wearing a purple and black headpiece. Baron Papanoida, Lucas’ character later crops up in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

2. Simon Pegg

Superfan Simon Pegg plays Unkar Plutt in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He has already dipped his toe in a major sci-fi franchise as Star-Trek’s Scotty, so he was emphatic that he would not show his face on the screen when he landed the small cameo in Star Wars.

3. Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig was cast as a stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Rey is imprisoned on Starkiller Base and she uses the force to manipulate him into releasing her from her bonds. His designation was FN-1824 and although we never see his face, he did get a few lines of dialogue.

4. Lin Manuel Miranda

If you watch Star Wars: The Rise of The Skywalker very closely, in the final few scenes, as everyone is embracing you can just about make out the composer amongst the pilots. It is a fitting tribute to his contribution to the saga as he composed two tracks for the previous film.

5. Keira Knightly

This Hollywood megastar played Sabé in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, the Padmé duplicate. Keira had not yet hit the big time and under the makeup was indistinguishable from Natalie Portman. Sabé has become a cult favorite after Knightley’s portrayal, popular with cosplayers and fanfiction writers.

6. Richard Armitage

Thorin Oakenshield from the Lord of The Rings trilogy crops up in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace as an unnamed Bravo pilot. You can spot him standing behind Sabé when the Naboo delegation goes to beg the Gungans for help. He is, sadly, without his sword.

7. Sofia Coppola

Keira Knightly wasn’t the only one of Padmé’s helpers that did well for herself. Academy Award winner Sofia Coppola played Saché. Because the handmaiden stayed behind on Naboo, it’s hard to spot her face under the hood but dedicated moviegoers will find her.

8. Karl Urban

Star of The Boys and Bones from Star Trek Into Darkness has one line of dialogue ‘Knights of Ren’ as they stroll past him in a corridor in Star Wars: The Rise of The Skywalker. Like so many famous faces he is hidden under stormtrooper armor.

9. Ed Sheeran

Although there were rumors that the British songwriter was cast as a stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker, that proved to be false when the film was released. Shortly before the Battle of Exegol all of the resistance pilots gather together, Ed can be seen in the background, as a bug-eyed alien.

10. Jon Favreau

Marvel’s Happy Hogan and executive producer of The Mandalorian unsurprisingly has voiced Paz Vizsla in his own series. However Favreau also made a cameo in Star Wars: A Solo Story, Rio Durrant, one of Beckett’s crew also has an extremely familiar voice.

11. John Ratzenberger

Cheers Star John Razenburger had one of the original cameos in The Empire Strikes Back. You can spot him with his signature mustache on Echo Base waiting for Luke Skywalker to return.

12. John Williams

Star Wars: The Rise of The Skywalker isn’t short of cameos so it would have been amiss if they had excluded this Star Wars colossus. John Williams plays a character called ‘Oma Tres’ (fittingly, an anagram for maestro) a bartender on Kijimi.

13. Rose Byrne

The famous Australian actress plays Dormé, Handmaiden to Padmé in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. Rose accompanies her to Coruscant and is present when Padmé meets with Palpatine, and in several other scenes.

 14. Kevin Smith

Kevin Smith was lucky enough to sneak into the Star Wars Universe not once, but twice. In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he provides the voice of a stormtrooper. His one line of dialogue comes as Chewbacca is being led towards Han at gunpoint after the siege at Maz’s Castle on Takodana. In Episode 9 Kevin Smith is bundled up local walking with a cyborg on Kijimi. Don’t be surprised if he sneaks into Ahsoka as he has just finished working on Clerks 3 with Rosario Dawson.

15. Treat Williams

Treat Williams was one of the biggest stars of stage and screen in the early 80s. Somehow the Golden Globe nominee ended up in an uncredited role in The Empire Strikes Back. He reportedly visited Carrie Fisher on set, dressed up as an Echo Base Trooper, and ran through the scenes for ‘fun’. His visit made it into the final cut.

The Deleted Scene

There’s an infamous deleted scene from Star Wars: The Last Jedi released on the Blu-ray DVD, involving Princes Harry, William, and Tom Hardy as Stormtroopers. The Princes don’t have any dialogue, so we can’t really tell that their royal highnesses are underneath the helmets, but if Boyega’s account is to be believed, this is the greatest cameo of all time.
