Most Anticipated Games Left In 2022
2022 will go down as a historic year in video games once it is all said and done. We are entering Q4 of this monumental year with more than a few blockbuster titles left on the slate. You won’t find many people arguing with the idea of Elden Ring winning Game of the Year. It very well might take that title. But a few of these games will not make that decision easy.
Last Of Us Part I - September 2nd - (PS5/PC)
What is a Last of Us game without its controversy? Warranted or not. Following a massive leak of screenshots and some gameplay, the general consensus has shifted from unbridled anticipation to wary apprehension. This leak has shown that there will be little to no improvement to the original gameplay, which is the OG game’s glaring weakness compared to Part II. The fact that one of the best narratives in video games will be remade with stunning visuals and broad accessibility is something to look forward to, however. We will see if this remake deserves the $70+ price tag. A first for the franchise, The Last of Us Part I, will also be available on PC. I can’t wait to see what insane mods the community has in store.

High On Life - October 25th - (Xbox 1/X/S)
Sorry Playstation, this might be your community’s first of many L’s. Easily the most eccentric game on this list, Xbox will launch its next console exclusive in October. From the minds of the legendary TV show, Rick and Morty comes High On Life. This beautifully and whimsically imagined game has shown us one thing without doubt; unbridled, unmitigated fun. Being in a time where we are berated with remakes and sequels with little to no original thought, it will be quite refreshing to get our hands on this game.
Gotham Knights - October 25th - (PS5, Xbox X/S, PC)
Batman is dead. Commissioner Gordon is dead. Batgirl, Robin, Red Hood, and Nightwing vs. The Court of Owls. Have I tickled your fancy yet? Ever since the release of Arkham Knight, fans have been begging for another title in the Arkham Universe. Although it’s been confirmed this doesn’t take place in the beloved timeline, fans are excited nonetheless. Even if gameplay reveals have divided fans between anticipation and nervousness, the next adventure in Gotham is marked on many gamers’ calendars.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - October 28th - (PS4/5, Xbox 1/X/S, PC)
There are many reasons for the excitement around the next Call of Duty installation. Modern Warfare 2, the first release in the Microsoft-Call of Duty era, is undoubtedly why it will draw attention. Another, more legitimate, reason is witnessing the continuation of one of the most beloved COD plot-lines in existence. Captain Price and the Task Force 141 are absolute icons in gaming history. Seeing that story play out in another iteration of Call of Duty is definitely worth getting excited over.
Sons Of The Forest - Oct 2022 - PC
Sadly, at least initially, console players will have to sit on the sidelines for this one. Even though there are only plans for a PC release right now, I can’t imagine that once popularity for this game peaks, they will continue to keep it from consoles. Sons of the Forest gives us another exciting title in the survival-horror genre where your character finds themselves on an island surrounded by cannibals. It is up to you to survive this Lord of Flies perversion by any means necessary.
MultiVersus - TBD 2022 - (PS4/5, Xbox 1/X/S, PC)
A competitor steps into the ring with Super Smash Brothers this year. With an intriguing roster of characters to choose from, MultiVersus hopes to shine where other arcade-fighting games fail. MultiVersus is currently in an open beta phase, and although having some areas where it needs to be improved upon (looking at you, Iron Giant), it definitely shows a lot of upsides. Where else can one fight as Super Saiyan Shaggy?
God Of War: Ragnarok - November 9th - (PS5/4)
This is Elden Ring’s biggest threat to the GOY crown for 2022. 2018’s God of War is regarded as one of the greatest games of all time, deservedly so. As of writing this, we’ve yet to see extended gameplay; however, everything we have seen shows there won’t be significant changes to the gameplay. Some would argue that’s a bad thing. I’d argue the opposite. Regardless, the conclusion to Kratos and Atreus’ story will be epic. That much is certain.
Pokemon Scarlet And Violet - November 18th - (Switch)
Pokemon fans received a refreshing glass of water with Pokemon Arceus early this year. With so much innovation in mechanics that felt monotonous and played out with its predecessors, fans have been looking forward to the next installment. The new “Pokemon Presents” on August 3rd gave us a more in-depth look at the upcoming game. I can’t help but notice some parallels between Arceus and Scarlet/Violet, which, I have to say, makes me excited.
The Callisto Protocol - December 2nd - (PS4/5, Xbox X/S, PC)
The creators of Dead Space grace this list with another title in the survival-horror genre. Taking place in a lunar prison, the player will be confronted with all sorts of disgustingly infected monsters who were once the greatest hope for survival away from Earth.
Hogwarts Legacy - Holiday 2022 - (Switch, PS4/5, Xbox X/S/1, PC, Switch)
I told my wife that there are two games, and once they are released, you will not see me for 24-48 hours. God of War Ragnarok is one, and Hogwarts Legacy is the other. Potter-Heads have been pleading for a game like this to be made for over a decade. Full reign of a gorgeous-looking Hogwarts, original story and morality system sets this game up to succeed. And for anybody apprehensive about Hogwarts Legacy, I’d like you to check out a mobile game titled: Hogwarts Mystery. This expansive chapter in the Harry Potter world contains an original story and is impressively built upon characters for a mobile game. With the same developers producing Hogwarts Legacy, it makes me very optimistic about what’s to come.
