2024 was a great year for movies. I reached my goal when it came to movies that came out this year. The year isn’t over yet, and there are still a few movies that I’ll be able to add to my total. My top 10 for the year, however, is pretty solidified, so here is a list of my favorite movies of 2024.

 10. Monkey Man

This movie starred, and was directed by, Dev Patel in a gritty action role. The combat was great and bloody, similar to what we saw in John Wick. Dev Patel was hellbent on revenge and would do anything to achieve it. He even got help from a local community of outcasts in India. Dev Patel was amazing in this role, and it is a must-watch for those who love action.

 9. Lord Of The Rings: The War of The Rohirrim

I really enjoyed this movie, even though, like other new Lord Of The Rings content, it may be very divisive in the fandom. I enjoyed the story and loved the characters. Hera, in particular, was my favorite, and it’s always nice to have another female character in Lord Of The Rings.

8. Thelma

I saw this movie twice this year, and both times were worth it. It tells the story of Thelma Price, a 91-year-old woman who gets scammed out of $10k. She makes it her mission to get back her stolen money and goes on a journey throughout LA to achieve her goal. It’s a cute film that talks about aging and how you shouldn’t let it limit you, but you also shouldn’t be afraid to ask for help.

7. Dune: Part 2

This film is visually stunning, more than anything. This part continues the story of Paul Atreides and his rise to power. In my opinion, the second part was much better than the first. The story was stronger in the second part and further expanded on the characters we knew. This is such a great adaptation of Dune

6. The Wild Robot

This is one of the best animated movies of the year and deserves a spot on this list. It tells the story of the robot, who “adopts” a baby duck that was separated from its family. It goes through the stages of being a parent. The best way to describe this film is that it’s a combination of The Iron Giant and WALL-E, so it will definitely have you crying or at least tearing up.

5. The Bikeriders

This one is based on a true story. It tells the story of a Chicago biker gang in the late 1960s. The story is from Kathy Bauer’s (Jodie Comer) perspective, and she has an amazing Midwestern accent. Austin Butler and Tom Hardy star in this film and are incredible in both of their roles.

4. Gladiator II

This movie was a ton of fun and had a lot of great combat. While it’s not as good as the first movie, it is still an excellent sequel. Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, and Pedro Pascal are all amazing in their roles. It’s a must-watch for fans of the first movie.

3. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

I know this is a wild choice for the top 3, but I loved this film. The story is not good, but that’s not why I watch the American Godzilla films. I watch them to see Kaiju fight each other, which is exactly what this films offer. You get Godzilla and Kong teaming up to fight their counterparts from Hollow Earth. You also see the return of the Queen herself, Mothra. It’s an exciting and fun film and one of my favorites of the year.

2. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Furiosa was my number 1 movie of the year for a while until Deadpool & Wolverine came out. Anya Taylor Joy was an excellent choice to take up the mantle of Furiosa from Charlize Theron. It was great to see such an awesome character’s origin story, and is a great addition to the Mad Max franchise.

1.  Deadpool & Wolverine

There were a lot of comic book movies that came out this year, but this one was the best. It’s a great installment in the Deadpool franchise and the best one out of the three films. It was great to see Hugh Jackman reprise his role as Wolverine, and the various cameos in the movie were not wasted and were wonderful to see. The movie is absolutely hilarious and is a must-watch for any fan of the character.
