Who Is Jedi Master Yaddle?
Jedi Master Yaddle was a character we saw in The Phantom Menace. She then gave up her Council seat, and we originally thought she took a back seat during the Clone Wars, but Tales Of The Jedi revealed that she was killed by Count Dooku before the Clone Wars started. Not much is known about this Jedi Master other than she is of the same species as Yoda and Grogu, but what that is is unknown.
Yaddle was born in 509BBY. When she was found to be Force-sensitive, she was taken to the Jedi temple to be trained in their ways. She was eventually promoted to Jedi Master and given a seat on the Jedi Council. She taught many padawans through her years, including Oppo Rancisis, who had a seat with her on the Council. She spent a lot of time in the Jedi Archives, but she didn’t let her scholarly reputation get in the way of her role as an active Jedi in the field.

Yaddle’s species is unknown, along with who trained her. In the Expanded Universe, she was trained by Master Polvin Kut. She is trained in ways that are not known to most Jedi. This includes morichro, which enabled the user to slow the opponent’s bodily functions to the point of death and used Form III for lightsaber combat. She was strong enough in the Force that she was able to briefly lift a massive metal hangar door during her fight with Dooku.
She looked up to Grand Master Yoda. While they belonged to the same species, he was also twice her age. She was highly sought after for her great wisdom but also known for her quietness, patience, and kindness. Yaddle often advised former students of hers and even enjoyed teaching younglings. She was devoted to the ideals of the Jedi and even tried to bring him back to the light side and offer him a path of redemption after catching him with Darth Sidious. As revealed in Tales of the Jedi, she became critical of the Order, which caused her to give up her Council seat. She thought the Council should’ve listened to Dooku and that Qui-Gon’s death was unnecessary. While she agreed with Dooku on many things, she also acknowledged his fall to the dark side.
Yaddle met her untimely end in 32 BBY at the hands of Count Dooku. After her death, Yaddle’s legacy lived on. Her Council seat was taken by Master Shaak Ti. She was mentioned by Greez in Jedi: Fallen Order. She was also seen in the Darth Vader comic Battle of Fortress Vader. During the war between the First Order and the Resistance, an unknown traveler included a portrait of Yaddle in his journal.
While we didn’t see much of Yaddle, she’s still an important character in Star Wars. There’s not much known about her species, so every character similar to her and Yoda gives us more insight into this mysterious species.
