Far from being a mere war between good and evil, the Star Wars apparatus is a complex political conflict between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, each with their own military minutia. While the Empire showcased a much more sizable army with its variety of units, including Stormtroopers and AT-TE operatives, the Alliance demonstrated further ingenuity through its Special Forces unit.

The Alliance Special Forces, or SpecForces, were the ground forces of the Alliance with a mission to restore the Republic; a resistance movement created to overthrow the Galactic Empire. Led by General Crix Madine, the unit was assigned an extensive variety of missions, such as creating distractions, protecting valuable targets, disarming proximity mines, and much more. They were also trained to use countless sorts of military equipment and to adapt to all situations.

RELATED:

One of the most famous Special Forces’ subunits were the Pathfinders, a category of troopers whose missions consisted of infiltrating areas they wanted to liberate, capture, or destroy. This unit made history alongside their General Han Solo at the Battle of Endor, where they infiltrated the Galactic Empire’s second Death Star’s system and destroyed the shield generator that was used to protect it. This was a real turning point in the war in favor of the Alliance.

Another unit that made up the SpecForces were the Infiltrators, whose ranks were composed solely of those in the Alliance with the most reason to hate the Imperials. Similar to Aldhani Rebel Infiltrator Cinta Kaz (from the Andor series), the Infiltrators were used to penetrate enemy lines and execute disruptions, sabotage, undercover missions, raids, and even assassinations. Infiltrators were often deployed alongside the Pathfinders to prepare beachheads and extraction points.

Of course, there were more units under the responsibility of the Rebel Alliance Special Forces whose strengths stemmed from diversity and specificity in training. For instance, within the SpecForces, there were Urban Guerillas (who focused on hit-and-run tactics) and Wilderness Fighters (who focused on outdoor combat and how to use the terrain to their advantage). Another example is the Marines, a key element in the SpecForces’ operations who mastered zero-gravity combat and the use of the blaster.

Eventually, after the Battle of Endor, the war against the Empire was won, and the Alliance was reorganized into the New Republic via the signing of the Galactic Concordance.
