Gungi lives! The Wookie youngling was last seen in The Clone Wars. He was first introduced when Jedi Master Yoda and Ahsoka Tano took the younglings to Ilum to get their kyber crystals. Gungi had to overcome his fear to get his kyber crystal. Regardless, he was successful and was able to create his lightsaber. It was unknown what happened to the Wooie after the events of Order 66 until now. In the newest episode of The Bad Batchhe is helped by Clone Force 99 to go find a new home on his homeworld of Kashyyyk.

Gungi has had it rough for a padawan. He lost the only home he’s ever known and everyone around him. The next time we see him, he has escaped containment and started fighting some droids with the help of Omega. It is unknown how he survived Order 66. His Master clearly didn’t survive and could have sacrificed themself for the young padawan. Gungi managed to survive on his own for a while, moving through the galaxy’s shadows and evading the Empire.

Even though he has a lightsaber and was trained in the ways of the Jedi, he is still just a child. While his childhood would’ve been different if the Jedi weren’t slaughtered during Order 66, he would’ve been safe. With the Empire taking over, he was robbed of safety and forced to grow up fast. The Bad Batch decides to help Gungi because they know what it’s like for a child to grow up in the age of the Empire. Omega and Gungi are two kids who have had to experience horrors and pain, therefore being robbed of their innocence and childhoods.

“When someone leaves, the trees weep, when they return, they sing,” is what the village elder says to Hunter at the end of the episode. At the end of the episode, we see Omega and Gungi reaching out to the trees. In the end, Gungi was able to find a home in Kashyyyk. While it is unsure if fans will see Gungi again, it’s nice to know that he is somewhere relatively safe and surrounded by his kind. Since Gungi is one of the only surviving Jedi, we could see him again in the future, either with the Bad Batch or in another form of Star Wars media. Let’s hope the Empire doesn’t find the Jedi anytime soon.
