The Mandalorians made history in all corners of the galaxy, taking part in major battles and changing the course of Star Wars history in one way or another.

Besides Mando (Din Djarin) from The Mandalorian series, other Mandalorians made an enormous impact across the galaxy. This is the story of one of them: Bo-Katan Kryze.

RELATED:

Bo-Katan served as a lieutenant on a terrorist group called the Death Watch. This group of radicals formed to restore the Mandalorians’ status of “fierce, honorable, and proud warriors” that once defined their culture. Additionally, she led an elite group of warriors named the Nite Owls.

Bo-Katan served under the command of Pre Vizsla, a descendant of Tarre Vizsla. Tarre was the first ever Mandalorian to be inducted in the Jedi Order and, according to the legend, he created the Darksaber. This was a unique black-bladed lightsaber that represented leadership within House Vizsla; whoever possessed the Darksaber would become ruler of Mandalore.

However, that tradition was lost. Satine Kryze, Bo-Katan’s sister, became Duchess and led her planet under a pacifist ideology that she believed would guide the Mandalorians to a prosperous future. Bo-Katan fiercely opposed her sister’s ideals and looked to overthrow her.

Allying themselves with Darth Maul and his brother, Savage Opress, the Death Watch started looking for support for their cause. Darth Maul was a key element to their growth, as he recruited the Pyke Syndicate, a Black Sun Faction, and a couple of Hutts enforcers. This new alliance was named The Shadow Collective.

The Death Watch plan was finally coming together. They would send their newest allies to cause commotion in Sundari, Mandalore’s capital city, and the Death Watch would come in to stop the criminals, gaining the trust of the people.

Once the plan was successful, The Death Watch decided to imprison Maul and Savage. Betrayed, Darth Maul escaped prison and challenged Pre Vizsla to a duel to the death, resulting in the latter’s demise by his very own Darksaber. With Vizsla dead, Mandalore was now under Maul’s command. Bo-Katan, outraged, refused to serve an outsider such as Maul and decided to escape the planet alongside some of her loyal soldiers from the Nite Owls (and Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was lured to the planet by Maul).

Bo-Katan, with the support of Ahsoka Tano and the Galactic Republic, liberated her planet from the reign of Darth Maul. Sadly, this did not mean a happy conclusion for the Mandalorian warrior, as Order 66 was executed shortly after. The Republic forces took over the planet, removing Bo-Katan from her position of power.

Her story continues, as she tries to free her planet once again from corrupt and external control. Full of tragedy, her story is one of the most compelling across the galaxy and her latest appearance on The Mandalorian (portrayed by Katee Sackhoff) only intrigues us more about her next move.
