Everything 'Star Wars' Fans Need To Know About Kenari

Cassian Andor captured the hearts of Star Wars fans when he sacrificed himself alongside Jyn Erso in the dramatic final moments of Rogue One. Fans wanted to see more of him and learn more about his character. We asked, and Disney delivered. Learning about Andor’s past, including his home planet of Kenari, and the people who live there gave us great insight. But how much is really known about Kenari? Well, to be honest, not much. Introduced in the Andor series on Disney+, viewers are slowly learning more and more about the remote, mid-rim planet.

Roughly taking place during Revenge of the Sith, Cassian, or Kassa, as he is known as a child, grows up in a tribal village, surrounded by lush greenery and forests. When we see his village, we realize that there are no adults present. We’re not given a specific reason as to why there are no adults, but we do see that the Separatists (which is most likely the Republic/Empire masquerading as the Separatists) have stripped the planet of its valuable mineral deposits.

An Imperial mining accident led to the deaths of everyone involved, including native adults and Imperial officers. The accident gives a possible reason as to why there are no adults in Kassa’s village. In the near future, the planet becomes known across the galaxy as off-limits, due to its toxicity, but that still doesn’t stop pirates from scavenging through the land for mineral remnants and ship parts.

Being a mid-rim planet, Kenari manages to stay relatively unknown, especially since mid-rim planets are not known for their natural resources. Another thing to note is that the people of Kenari do not speak Galactic Basic, which is essentially English and what we’re used to hearing from nearly every character in the Star Wars universe. They speak what we assume is a form of Kenari dialect.

There is also a lack of technology, with the Kenari people using parts from fallen Imperial ships to build their homes. When Kassa first explores a ship, he is taken by surprise by his appearance in a mirror, as they don’t have them on the planet. They use primitive weapons as well, including blow darts.

Mid-rim systems and planets don’t get a ton of attention throughout the Star Wars universe, so hopefully, as the series goes on, we will get to learn more about Cassian Andor’s home planet.
