5 Marvel Characters That Deserve Their Own Show
It is an exciting time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans are speculating more than ever on when our favorite mutants will turn up. Sure, heavy hitters such as Wolverine, Cyclops, and Professor X will find their way into their own feature films, but the opportunities for mutant stories on Disney+ are endless. Here is a quick list of who I think deserves their own Disney+ series.
Nightcrawler
The jovial, extremely religious catholic Kurt Wagner is an excellent option. In the MCU, the Hulk is the only hero with a physical transformation, making him different from the outside world. Yes, the She-Hulk series will adjust this somewhat; however, being physically blue with “demon-like” features, Kurt Wagner can only open doors in the MCU. The religiosity of the character is also appealing. Now, with the famed horned hero from Hell’s Kitchen being integrated into MCU canon with Daredevil: Born Again, there is an opportunity to exhibit two aspects of a particular faith. Zooming out a bit, this would align with how other Phase 4 properties have honed in on other mystical or spiritual elements within the MCU, from Moon Knight visiting the realm of the Duat to Thor: Love and Love and Thunder showing us Valhalla. With the close of phase four being Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, I’m sure more of the Wakandan Ancestral Plan will be disclosed, especially due to the untimely passing of Chadwick Boseman.

Gambit
Imagine Gambit in an Ozark-style show. We can see the early beginning of Gambit with the Thieves Guild, learning how to handle his bio-kinetic abilities, plus him charming all the ladies at the bar. Mister Sinister would be the villain for obvious development reasons. This will be a great jumping-off point for Storm and Rogue. Not to bring all things back to Daredevil, but if Feige wants to create a grittier environment within the MCU, a Gambit show would have the potential. I also enjoyed the southern aspect of Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Gambit is the perfect spearhead for this environment within the MCU.
Bishop
Lucas Bishop is a hop, skip, and a jump if we get a Gambit series. Yes, this time-traveling badass can be developed as a baddie-turned-good guy, similar to Cable, but can you imagine the police procedural vibe this show could have on Disney+? Don’t drift far from the comics because “Mutant Town” would be an insanely good title. I’m sure with all the multiverse travel we are sure to experience in the coming years, an NYPD Blue-type show about Bishop would be incredible.
Deadpool & Cable
This will never happen. I know it, and you know it, but do we all understand how outstanding it would be if we got 18 episodes of Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin as Deadpool and Cable? Lethal Weapon-style buddies bringing the baddies to justice one chimichanga at a time. And who doesn’t want more Dopender? Plus, bringing in the more city-level heroes (Daredevil, Spiderman, Echo, Hawkeye, and I’m holding out hope for a new Luke Cage show). I don’t think anyone is going to need another Avengers movie after that. I’m not saying we don’t need another Avengers movie, but if you are looking for an actual buddy-cop-styled Marvel show instead of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Deadpool and Cable are your ticket. Let’s really throw the dice a little, Kevin Feige.
William Stryker
Another religious/spiritual choice, but an origin story focused on Stryker, and his project can also be an excellent route to take within a Disney+ show. As I mentioned earlier, Phase 4 has introduced spirituality into the MCU to an extent. Observing a hero struggle with their faith is part and parcel of most character arcs. But to watch a villain develop within the same religious system can prove worth a gamble on a Disney+ series. Ethan Hawke’s portrayal of Arthur Harrow is probably the closest example of a religious zealot the MCU has ever encountered. Stryker is a crucial element to the Wolverine storyline, and we know Wolverine is showing up somewhere, hopefully soon, in the MCU.
These are just a handful of ideas that can move the MCU in a new direction with our favorite X Marvel characters. As with any article I write concerning the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I trust in the power of Feige.
