Why Was Cassian's Origin Changed to Kenari?

Andor tells the story of Cassian Andor before the events of Rogue One. We never had the privilege to learn more about his backstory, until now. Andor has shown us how Cassian was taken from his homeworld of Kenari by his adoptive mother Maarva Andor. However, in Rogue One he claims he is from the planet Fest.  According to StarWars.com, Cassian is from Fest, a densely populated planet in the Outer Rim with steep mountain ranges and deep valleys covered in ice. It seems Andor has changed this and made Cassian’s origin from the planet Kenari.

Kenari is a planet located in the Mid Rim. It is home to lush jungles and grounds rich in valuable mineral deposits. During the Republic Era, a large scaling mining operation took place to extract its rich mineral deposits. This resulted in massive open pit mines, and eventually wrecked the planet.

Not much is known about Cassian Andor going into Andor. Fest is not a familiar planet and seems like a miserable place to live. Cassian’s homeworld was never mentioned in Rogue One either, just on the Star Wars official website. So changing his origin from Fest to Kenari fits well with Cassian’s murky origins.

While the backstory of Cassian being from Fest has been retconned, we still see a mention of it in Andor. After the event on Morlana One, a search goes out for a Kenari male. Only a few people know Cassian is from Kenari as he claims that he is from Fest.

It is unknown why Maarvaand Cassian lie about his origins. Is being from Kenari really that bad? We know that Kenari is now uninhabitable. There is much more to learn about this mysterious new planet, and hopefully, Andor will go on to explain more about it.
