Why The CIS Had One Of The Most Organized Navies In 'Star Wars'

The CIS, also known as the Confederacy of Independent Systems or more commonly referred to as the Separatists, actually ran an extremely well-organized operation. Sure, they were the enemies of the Republic, and we all know how it turned out, but when you sit back and think about how the CIS prepped for the war that was to come, it really was quite impressive.

Of course, this would make sense as the hidden leader of the Separatist Alliance had been in the shadows making moves to instigate war as well as playing his part as a senator and then Supreme Chancellor in the Republic. While this gave them an automatic advantage, that was not the only plus for the Separatists. Their ability to run their operations as so efficiently had them in full preparation for the Clone Wars.

The organization known as the Trade Federation was the pride and joy of the CIS. Led by the mastermind Palpatine and his apprentice Count Dooku combined with a multitude of allies that bring a variety of tools and assets to the table, the Separatists were able to combine their strengths together to create projects such as some of their famed warships used during the Clone Wars.

In addition to Palaptine’s long game, the CIS had a smooth transition in converting their ships into battleships without anybody noticing. Back in 1000 BBY, the first Supreme Chancellor Tarsus Valorum of the Galactic Republic (Finis Valorum was his direct descendant) enacted the Ruusan Reformation, which took power away from a single entity. This made creating war-ready ships difficult in the years leading up to the Clone Wars. To counter this without causing a quarrel within the Republic and to keep it hidden, the CIS had converted their transportation vessels known as the Lucrehulks. These large transportation ships were already armed to protect themselves as they travel dangerous trade routes.

Not only did the CIS have war-ready ships, but they also have far-reaching connections that allow them to run operations in places hidden from the Republic where they can build whatever they want without anyone knowing except those within the Trade Federation. Through the Intergalactic Banking Clan, Separatists had the ability to use neighboring systems to run secret operations whether it be manufacturing or headquarters. This allowed them to organize and devise plans without interruption.

The knowledge of the Republic’s ongoing plans, their ability to create and maintain ships through the Trade Federation, and the far reach across the universe allowed the Confederacy of Independent Systems were very successful in the Clone Wars. This made them a force to contend with.
