Victor Von Doom, a name that cast fear into even the bravest of Marvel heroes. Rising to popularity as one of the Fantastic Four’s most notable and recognizable foes, Doom’s reach and influence in the comics have grown far beyond just toiling with Marvel’s first family. Due to his prominence as one of the comic universe’s most powerful villains, fans have been clamoring for the day he finally joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which is most certainly a matter of when and not if. The only real question remaining is how? Marvel Studios could choose to wait until the Fantastic Four’s true debut in 2024 and have Doom alongside his longtime nemeses. However, Doom vs. the Four has now been done in all three of the Fantastic Four movies released in the past two decades. It is time for an introduction that both the character and his fans deserve: a solo movie.

Some may argue that Doom would best be introduced opposite a noteworthy hero, even if said hero is not part of the Fantastic Four. However, given the current state of the MCU, introducing the character separate from the main storyline may prove more fruitful. As it stands, the MCU currently lacks longstanding villains capable of dominating the screen like its heroes can. The threat of Kang now looms much like Thanos did during the Infinity saga, but the need for more is still there. As much as our heroes need fresh faces to go up against, having recurring villains with strong character arcs is equally as important. Unfortunately, a number of the MCU villains capable of standing on their own two feet as solo characters have already met their demise, and at this time, Marvel has yet to release a villain-centric solo story.

RELATED:

Enter Victor Von Doom. As a child of a father who was a doctor and a mother with a penchant for the mystic arts, Victor never had a chance at a normal life. At a young age, his mother died from a deal with Mephisto, the devil of the Marvel Universe. Not long after, he and his father were chased from their home because his father failed to save the life of an ill noblewoman. His dad too would fall prey to an early death, leaving Victor to fend for himself. Luckily, you do not grow up to be the rival of one of the smartest men on Earth without having some talents yourself.

Possessing a superior intellect of his own, Doom worked tirelessly to master the knowledge of his own world as well as others. Eventually, he found himself at America's State University in New York where he would meet his aforementioned rival, Reed Richards. It was during this time that Victor was horribly scarred after an experiment he was conducting to save his mother from Mephisto’s dimension backfired. After being expelled from school and spending time in a self-sentenced exile of sorts, Doom returned to his home of Latveria and overthrew the current leadership. He assumed power for himself and even went as far as to rename the capital Doomstadt.

If Marvel Studios were to focus on Doom’s life after being scarred as a starting point, they could build him up separately from the known characters of the universe while also still giving us hints towards his hatred for Reed and possible future encounters with a certain famous foursome. Once Victor completes his journey home to begin his dictatorship, you can show he uses his new position to manipulate world events from the shadows and impact many of the MCU’s biggest moments. Just like that, you would have a villain woven into the universe’s history with the ability to affect events on a global level and the strength to go toe-to-toe with some of its strongest heroes. Doom possesses such physical, mental, and political powers that any hero that crosses his path would be hard-pressed trying to handle him in a single movie or season.

The real benefit of taking the time to truly turn Doctor Doom into a cornerstone villain of the MCU lies in his future potential. With the recent announcements about the MCU’s upcoming timeline, fans know we are headed for Secret Wars, and with that knowledge comes the possibility of God King Doom. The Secret Wars storyline involves the multiverse ending due to numerous incursions (sound familiar?), and one man steps up to wield the incredible power needed to hold everything together, Victor Von Doom.
