Who Sent That Ship For Kelleran Beq And Grogu In 'The Mandalorian'
WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE STAR WARS PREQUEL TRILOGY AND THE MANDALORIAN SEASON 3, EPISODE 4
In the most recent episode of The Mandalorian, fans couldn’t believe their eyes when we finally got a glimpse into Grogu’s past and who rescued him during Order 66. Adding to the surprise of the moment was Ahmed Best’s return to the Star Wars galaxy as Jedi Kelleran Beq. As if those two things weren’t jaw-dropping enough, we watched as Kelleran and Grogu escaped Coruscant on a Naboo ship that had been waiting for them when they arrived. The biggest question on everyone’s mind right now is who sent the ship and guards.
Thanks to the prequel trilogy, we know that there are only two people that command the Naboo Royal Guard and they are the same two people that we know were living on Coruscant when Order 66 was executed. Let’s take a look at both of these people and discuss which one was more likely to have sent the ship that saved Kelleran and Grogu.
RELATED:
Padmé Amidala
The first and most obvious person that we think of when we think of Naboo is the former queen and senator herself. In Revenge of the Sith, we know that she is on Coruscant when the Jedi Temple goes up in flames because we see her watching it from her apartment window. She was close to the Jedi thanks to their help in saving her life during the events of The Phantom Menace and due to her relationship with Anakin and Obi-Wan. This may be a stretch, though, since she seemed to be completely unaware of what was happening until Obi-Wan came to her and told her what Anakin had done to the younglings. Padmé’s character was criminally underused by Lucas during Revenge of the Sith, and this would be a great way to give her character a bit of redemption.
Jar Jar Binks
This is a character that Star Wars fans are split on, but he is the only other person that has authority over the Naboo Royal Guard. After becoming a Junior Representative to Naboo between the events of The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, Binks gained significantly more power. While most fans blame him for giving Palpatine the power to carry out his evil plan, they do not give the Gungan enough credit for how smart he really is. Since his character was mostly ignored, it would stand to reason that he may have known more about what was going on than anyone realized. He would have had time to call for reinforcements to help rescue as many Jedi as possible the second he realized that there was a problem. This would also be a great idea since his character is still alive, as far as we know, and could easily make a cameo in The Mandalorian to further Grogu’s conflict between his past as a Jedi youngling and his present as a Mandalorian foundling.
