Which Confederacy Of Independent Systems Droid Was The Best?

CIS Droids

One of the defining features of the Clone Wars was the droids commissioned by the Confederacy of Independent systems. The CIS, or Separatist army, used droids as their main defense against the Clones.

The Republic’s army boasted both regiments of highly skilled, specially bred clone troopers, as well as elite Jedi knights. The Separatist army was forced to innovate new models of droids to hold their own against the Republic’s superior battalions. While many of the Separatist battle droids gave the Republic a run for their money, some were more effective than others.

To determine which model of droid was most effective, one has to consider the advantages of utilizing robotic soldiers over sentient beings. In general, sentient warriors will always be more adaptable than droids. In many cases, the Republic’s clone troopers and Jedi knights were able to win the day by outthinking their mechanic opponents, rather than simply shooting their way out of a fight. Jedi in particular were also far more skilled at close-range combat; it has been said that one Jedi could take down a hundred battle droids alone.

The greatest strength of a droid army, in truth, is sheer numbers. There is only so much even the most powerful Jedi can do against a continuous onslaught of invading droids. But which model proved to be most effective against the Grand Army of the Republic?

Droideka

The droideka, a formidable, rolling machine with shield generators and twin repeating blaster cannons, might, at first glance, appear to be the superior droid. But droidekas needed to power down their shields and weapons to move any significant distance, and could not be deployed on uneven terrain. A sentient warrior could too easily outthink this clumsy droid.

The B2 battle droid attempted to combine the mass-producibility of battle droids with the might of a sentient supersoldier. While these droids were equipped with far more firepower than a simple battle droid, they were more difficult to produce, relied too heavily on the backup of simpler droids, and were stupid enough to be taken down easily by sentient soldiers.

Commando Droids

The BX droid is possibly the most theoretically impressive droid model of the Separatist army. These commandos were far more heavily armored and could perform as snipers and agile soldiers. However, these droids were ultimately too expensive to mass-produce, and could inevitably be bested by a quick-thinking clone trooper.

In truth, the design that plays most into the strengths of droid soldiers is the simple B1 battle droid. These droids were cheap enough to be produced in such high quantities that their sheer numbers often made up for the fact that they are individually clumsy and low-skilled. The Grand Army of the Republic possessed some of the most elite warriors the galaxy had ever seen, but even they could not hope to outnumber the ranks of simple battle droids.  Roger, roger.
